The episode is titled “Teacher”, and it is pretty obvious who we are talking about here. It’s none other than our favourite “josei-lover” and “not-taken-seriously” teacher of Katagiri High School, Yasuda Sensei. Students treat him more like a senior than a teacher.
Horimiya season 2 episode recap: What happens when a snoozing teacher and a quirky set of students collide in the world of Horimiya?
It all starts with Yasuda dozing off in the staff room, completely forgetting he has a class to teach. He gets a reminder from his colleague, Terajima sensei, who tries to wake him up, but Yasuda is in deep slumber.
Seeing Yasuda sleep, two of the third-year students mess up his hair by making him two pigtails.
Is it really normal to mess with a teacher in this way? Calling the teacher by his name, touching his hair, and making pigtails?
Well, I guess anything is normal and possible in the world of Horimiya.
Yasuda wakes up with a jolt and prepares to go to class, completely unaware of the cute little pigtails.
To be honest, he was looking adorable with those two pigtails.
He complains about the class performance this time, but in the meantime, the students cannot take a single word seriously. Thanks to his distracting pigtails.
The students are left to wonder, breaking a cold sweat while keeping their laughter to themselves after seeing the sudden change of hairdo of their Yasuda sensei.
A very tiring task!
Yoshikawa comes in, and she is the one to finally ask him to stop putting on a show for them in his new hairdo- pigtails—and the entire class breaks into laughter.
It is then that Yasuda realises he has been making a fool of himself all this time. But the point here is that Yasuda gets annoyed at the fact that he could not enjoy the feeling of teenage girls touching his hair as he was asleep at that time.
What happens when a corridor encounter, a sewing session, and a touch of jealousy collide in this comedic school tale?
We meet another sensei, Nakamine sensei (new character), the physics teacher, who is also in charge of the resource room key and has a habit of forgetting about things, especially keys, as we learn in this episode. He is a really clumsy person.
I am curious about the members of the school board who decide on teacher selection because these teachers—some, to be specific—are crackheads.
In the next scene, Nakamine walks in the corridor and drops one of the keys from his pocket. Yoshikawa sees it and warns him about the chance of having a hole in his pocket.
She takes him to the Home Economics room and sews the hole. They are alone in the room. Nakamine breaks the science by complementing Yoshikawa’s hand skills. While talking, he says that he has trouble remembering the names and faces of people, but he remembers Yoshikawa.
They give a smile to each other- and guess what?
Ishikawa and Yasuda overhear it and come to an instant conclusion – Nakamine sensei and Yoshikawa are having an affair!
Very cliche!
Yasuda, being Yasuda, cannot believe Nakamine could get a girl to sew his lab coat for him while he is clearly lagging behind. And Ishikawa can not get over the fact that she did not sew his button last summer, and now she is sewing the pocket of her teacher’s lab coat.
Seeing them talk even after she has done mending the pockets spikes their suspicion and curiosity even more.
Nakamine thanks her and offers to get a drink for her, but instead, she asks for his hand for palm-reading (to see if the lines are clear or faint). While she is about to touch his hands, there is a knock from the window.
Toru does it intentionally. But what he does undoubtedly takes care of his wish- let Yoshikawa not touch Nakamine sensei’s hand.
Do we smell jealousy here, Ishikawa-kun?
After this, when Yoshikawa sees Toru’s hand, he asks her if she goes by reading the palms of everyone because he does not want anyone to think of her as a weirdo, and not that he does.
I see someone is pretty concerned about Yoshikawa! Toru is worried for his precious friend!
But she takes it the other way around and catches him at the point where he calls her a weirdo.
Shu comes in and informs that Miyamura is in for tomorrow’s little boys’ fun in an empty classroom.
So tomorrow has arrived, and Ishikawa, Shu, and Miyamura have gathered in the Student council room. When Yasuda hears the boys from inside the room, he immediately suspects that they must be up to something nasty and mischievous.
But, to his surprise, they were discussing a whole cake that they had sneaked in.
The emphasis quickly shifts from the students who are being questioned to the teacher who is being questioned by his students. The entire case of students being caught on school grounds sneaking a whole cake takes a turn for the worse when the teacher is asked about his personal life.
These guys have no fear of being caught and punished if there is any punishment at all. They are too interested in their teacher’s personal life.
They are simply concerned about their teacher’s life, who has no interest in marriage but shamelessly shows interest in and runs after high school girls.
But one thing he sure won’t prefer is Nakamine getting married before him.
This guy is still obsessed with Nakamine convincing Yoshikawa to sew his pocket.
And these boys are fixated on knowing about his place, where he lives, and how he lives.
But there is a condition, only then shall they be welcomed to his house.
The condition is that Miyamura brings Hori, Ishikawa gets Yoishikawa, and Shu brings Ayane and Kono.
And the boys bluntly refused him and shooed away all their enthusiasm about his place.
Their activities and stupidity actually help, and they are exempt from any punishment. And next time, they should bring some cake for him as well.
Before leaving, Miyamura reminds Yasuda to keep the cake cold because they will come after school hours. Yasuda keeps the cake cold as instructed. How?
He puts the cake in the refrigerator used in the science preparation room.
What a brilliant idea, sensei!
These guys and their sensei share the same brain cells!
Horimiya season 2 episode 9 ending explained: How does a nap lead to hilarious misunderstandings, wild interrogation, and an unexpected transformation in a classroom comedy?
Sengoku and Hori got locked in the classroom while they were sleeping. And it’s 9 o’clock, and no one has come looking for them. And the way Sengoku describes the sleeping Hori is hilarious.
No sooner does she hear from him about their predicament than she starts blaming Sengoku for letting it happen and questioning his position as class president. However, soon Yasuda sensei comes to their rescue.
Now, it’s interrogation time.
What were a boy and a girl doing, locked up in the classroom, after school hours?
Well, these two just fell asleep. Nothing else happened other than that.
Yasuda questions them as to what they were doing, saying that students stay late and start making out.
Well, he is indeed spitting facts, and we all know how true this is in real life.
Right, people?
But it really goes overboard when he literally asks Hori to take her clothes off to see if they actually did something scandalous or not. But he is soon interrupted by Terajima sensei, by the grace of the Lord.
Yasuda remains a puzzle, leaving us to ponder his motivations. Could it be a solitary heart, pining for companionship? Or perhaps the loneliness bug has bitten him a tad too hard? Who knows? Regardless, one truth shines through: Terajima’s patience with Yasuda’s boundary-crossing banter has hit rock bottom.
Did Yasuda really think of checking their lower bodies to see if they had done anything nasty or not?
Unbelievable, Yasuda.
He should not stoop so low as to do inappropriate things to female students. He should not be doing any of those perverted things in the first place.
Yasuda should definitely know when to act like a real teacher and how to act like one.
Let’s give Yasuda a crash course in “Teacher Etiquette 101,” shall we?
It’s like peering into a kaleidoscope of confusion trying to decipher Yasuda’s motives. Is he single and ready to mingle with wild theories? However, thanks to Terajima sensei for hitting the ‘Enough is enough!’ alarm bell before it got too late.
While Terajima deals with Yasuda, Sengoku and Hori leave for home.
The next day, Miyamura gets to learn about the situation from Hori. When Hori says that Sengoku was there too, instead of worrying about Hori’s safety, he checks on Sengoku to see if he is safe and sound. Getting locked up with Hori might be dangerous.
Hori is clearly enraged, but she is cut off by the newly enlightened and purified Yasuda, who is more like a brainwashed Yasuda under some kind of spell. He turned drastically, from a pervert to a philosopher in a night. Terajima Sensei has some skills.
But this didn’t have a lasting impact. He returned to his usual self within a day.
