Oshi no ko is a manga series written by Aka Akasaka, who is the author of the beloved anime series “Kaguya-sama: Love Is War,” and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari, with her most famous work being “Scum’s Wish.”
The story is a brutal look into the world of the glamorised idol industry in Japan.
It revolves around a gynaecologist named Gorou Amemiya, who is a massive fan of the skilled and gorgeous idol Ai Hoshino.
He is, therefore, completely perplexed when the pregnant idol shows up at his hospital.
She is guaranteed a safe birth by Gorou, but he had no idea that a chance encounter with this enigmatic individual would lead to his untimely demise —or so he believed.
Gorou is murdered by an ardent fan of Ai the night before Ai gives birth, and he is reincarnated as Aquamarine “Aqua” Hoshino, Ai’s son, keeping his memories of his previous life.
Four years after the delivery, Ai is also killed by the same fan who killed the doctor, who then commits suicide.
Twelve years later, Aqua decides to join the idol industry in hopes of finding the accomplice involved in the murder, whom he deduces must be his and Ruby’s father.
Oshi No Ko Episode 10 A Thorough Recap:
After the shocking realisation in episode 9 that Ruby and Mem-Cho are terrible at singing, the two decided that Arima should be the centre at the Japan Idol Festival (JIF) instead.
Arima is an amazing singer who has had experience releasing her own music but with little to no success.
Because of that, she is not confident in being the centre. Her past failures have led to low self-esteem and a lack of trust in her abilities.
However, Ruby and Mem-Cho come up with a plan to pretend as though they are shooting a YouTube video and nonchalantly mention that they have chosen Arima to be the centre.
But Arima tells them to turn off the camera and immediately shuts down their whole plan.
She is visibly upset at the two for making the decision on their own and not taking her feelings into consideration.
Mem-Cho tried to convince her that she and Ruby were not fit to be the centre, and watching Arima’s music video made them realise just how good of a singer she really is.
Arima goes on a tangent about how the success of Bell Pepper Exercise led people to believe that she could have a legitimate career as a singer.
But every song she released after that was a major flop.
This led a lot of people and her agency to lose a lot of money.
Arima has a lot of regrets from that period. She was struggling to make money as a child actor who was slowly losing her relevance, and even after immense hard work to become better at singing, she still couldn’t live up to people’s expectations.
This led her agency to lose faith in her, and she struggled to find work after that.
Ruby tried to console her by telling her that even though she was a little bit off-key in the Bell Pepper Exercise, she still continued to practise singing to meet people’s experiences.
She worked extremely hard so as not to disappoint the people around her.
Her strong sense of responsibility and the ability to pour her heart into whatever she is doing are exactly what B Komachi needs in a centre.
But Arima is still not convinced. She thinks that they are only complimenting her to make her give in to their request.
Even after their relentless pursuit, Arima still refuses to accept the offer.
However, in a comical twist, she immediately accepts their request after hearing them sing for the first time.
Arima is disgusted at her terrible luck in how things have turned out and at how unbelievably bad Ruby and Mem-Cho are at singing, even though they want to be Idols.

On the other hand, Ruby and Mem-Cho seem very proud of the sudden turn of events, considering how tense the situation was a moment ago.
They are very happy and confident to have Arima as their centre, and they always believe that things will turn out this way in the end.
The dichotomy of opinions in the group makes for very entertaining banter between characters that never fails to captivate the audience.
However, underlying this whole comedic exchange is still the issue of Arima’s complex inner turmoil.
Even though she has accepted the offer, the ghosts of her past failures continue to haunt her, and she feels very uneasy about her role in the group.
But she bravely puts on strong composure so as not to show her uneasiness to the group.
Miyako enters the room in the middle of their conversation, and with the day of the performance slowly coming closer, she has brought someone to help with their practice.
Arima thinks that it might be Aqua, but she is shocked to see that it’s Pieyon instead.
Pieyon helps them build stamina by putting them through rigorous training.
As it turns out, stamina is extremely important for an Idol to maintain a good performance and keep smiling to the very end of their performance, even when they are dead tired.
After days of intense training, the group is exhausted, but they are still working on a plan for their first act on stage.
Arima is still feeling down because of her low self-esteem and seeing how dedicated Ruby and Mem-Cho are compared to her.
Pieyon goes over to her to try to cheer her up, and they strike up a conversation.

Pieyon asks her whether she regrets becoming an Idol.
Arima presses her concerns regarding her eligibility for this role.
She thinks that she is not cut out for being an idol.
Pieyon says that she is amazing, but Arima’s insecurities and her constant self-deprecating remarks over the years have made her incapable of believing in her talent.
She tells Pieyon that people throw these shallow praises at her without knowing anything about her.
Pieyon tells her that he knows quite a lot about her, which makes her really happy.
Over their conversation, she begins to like Pieyon, and she thinks that she might even fall for him and forget about Aqua.
Mem-Cho jokingly states that Pieyon, in person, is actually not very buff and has the same stature as Aqua.
Arima also praises Pieyon for what a nice guy he is compared to Aqua.
All this comparison foreshadowed the fact that under the chicken mask, it might actually be Aqua impersonating Pieyon.
The audience’s suspicion was later revealed to be true when Aqua in Pieyon’s costume was shown talking to the real Pieyon about the group’s progress.
He did that because Arima really needed some encouragement, but she wasn’t listening to him because of her mixed feelings about him.
So he thought that she might take his advice seriously if it came from Pieyon.
Pieyon tells him to have them practise stage positions in mind and then rest up for tomorrow.
After practice, Mem-Cho goes right to sleep, but Ruby is too excited to fall asleep.
Arima asks her how she can be so excited in a situation like this. Is she not nervous about what the outcome will be?

They have a heart-to-heart conversation about the subject matter.
Ruby tells her about how she was stuck in one room and had no aspirations or excitement for the future (talking about her previous life, but Arima doesn’t know that), but it was becoming an Idol fan that saved her and gave her hope.
After the conversation ends, Arima tells her some made-up lies about sleep deprivation to get her to sleep.
But Arima herself was still a little bit agitated, so she decided to go downstairs.
That is when she sees Pieyon taking his mask off. She is in shock when she finds out that it is Aqua under Pieyon’s mask, but she doesn’t confront him about it and goes back to bed instead.

The next day, they are at the Japan Idol Festival.
They will be performing on the Star Stage, where they will be up against a lot of underground, up-and-coming Idor groups.
Ruby and Mem-Cho are very energetic and excited, but Arima seems really tired.
It turns out she didn’t get a wink of sleep because she was up all night thinking about why Aqua would impersonate Pieyon.
Was it because he wanted her to take his advice seriously, or was his kindness also a lie? These are the questions that continued to swirl in Arima’s mind.
She thinks about getting some sleep in the dressing room before their performance, but that dream is also crushed when she finds out that they don’t have a private room; instead, they are sharing a room with all the other groups.
Private rooms are only reserved for very famous groups that make a lot of money.
If they want a private room, they will have to become famous first, which is very hard in this industry, considering the competitive nature of the business.
Miyako asks Arima if she is nervous.
Arima confidently tells her that she is not taking her immense experience as an actor and performer into account.
However, she was only putting on a brave face, but on the inside, she was extremely scared of letting down her friends and the people who put their faith in her.
We get a flashback to Arima’s past, where she was failing as a singer. She had no audience, and she was failing to sell any merchandise.
Her agency was constantly losing faith in her, and she stopped receiving any work from them.
She is scared of ever having to experience that again.
She goes out to get some fresh air while she tries to get her thoughts under control.
This is when Ruby finds her and tells her that she is extremely nervous.

Arima is surprised and shocked to hear that because she was acting fine a minute ago.
But as the performance gets closer, Ruby is getting more and more nervous.
She asks Arima if she is also nervous.
Arima tells her that she is not, but Ruby immediately catches her lying.
Ruby feels relieved that She told Arima that it would be all right since they would be out there on the stage together.
But this is what Arima is afraid of.
It would have been fine if it was only her, but the thought of dragging her friends down with her is what scares her the most. She doesn’t want to fail.
Ruby tells her that she doesn’t care about her past career as a child actor or her failures; to her, she is only a rookie Idol, just like them, so it’s okay to fail.
This cheers her up, and they prepare to go on stage together.
Oshi No Ko Episode 10 Ending Explained: Should Arima Be The Centre In B Komachi?
Oshi no ko, episode 10, has ramped up the story quite a bit.
We get a deeper look into Arima’s character and how her past failures have affected her as a person.
This episode felt like it was dedicated solely to Arime, which was a nice change of pace for the audience.
We finally got to see B Komachi making some progress as a group.
Although It did come as a shock to see Arima lead the group instead of Ruby since Ruby is the main character, I think it was well deserved by Arima after everything she has been through, and it was a welcome sight for most of the fanbase as well.
Her experience as a performer and a singer who has released good music in the past makes her more than eligible to be the centre.
Not to mention how atrocious Mem-Cho and Ruby’s singing was compared to hers.
If B Komachi wants to succeed as an Idol group, then honestly, she is their best bet.
