In 1899 Season 1 Episode 5, we saw some of the passengers of Kerberos, such as Yuk Je, Kester, Landon, and Eugen, jump from the Kerberos.

But why did they jump all of a sudden what happened to them?

In 1899 Episode 5, we see suddenly a siren gets triggered in the ship, and it starts a ticking sound, and most of the passengers onboard Kerberos seem possessed and start moving to the upper deck to jump.

Maura, at that time, was with her son Elliot, who was showing her the tiled shaft inside her room, which connects to other people’s memories inside Kerberos.

At first, as viewers, we were all clueless about what was happening to the passengers and why they were jumping out of the ship.

But after the end of 1899 Season 1 ending, we finally understood the reason.

The explanation is that Kerberos is one of the simulations developed by Maura and Daniel.

Maura developed this to spend time with her son Elliot as he was dying at that time.

So the simulation was designed in such a way that in mid-journey, people will start jumping out of the ship, and only main characters such as Eyk, Ramiro, Angel, Ling Yi, Mrs Wilson, Clemence, Lucian, Iben, Olek, Sabastian, Henry, Daniel, and Maura will remain.

This is basically how the simulation has been programmed.

Hence what happened in Episode 5 was just part of the simulation, and people who jumped, such as Yuk Je, Kester, Landon, and Eugen, do not die; whatever is happening inside the simulation is not real.

They are just memories they want to forget.

The second theory is that most of the characters who jumped from Kerberos might not be alive in real life; they might be memories from the past of some of the people who are actually in the simulation.

For example, Ling Yi’s mother, Yuk Je and his sister Mei Mei might have died a long time back, and Ling Yi is basically in the simulation to forget her mother and sister’s death.

The idea behind this theory comes from Maura’s case, who developed the entire simulation to be with her son Elliot who was dying.

So whoever we can see on the ship, all of them, might not even be alive in real life.

Maybe those who have enrolled on Project Prometheus are just trying to forget the death of one of their close ones or the painful memories of the past.

What do you think? Is the first theory correct or the second one? Let us know in the comments below.
