Directed by the makers of Dark Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar, the new german mystery thriller 1899 has been released on Netflix today.

We were introduced to the series’ main character Maura Franklin, a neurologist travelling alone to America alone.

The show starts with Maura having a terrible dream of being restrained in some asylum, and she pleads that she is not crazy.

In that dream, she states: “Father, I know what I have seen. I’m not crazy; I know what I have seen; what did you do to my brother? He was on Prometheus.

He found out what you were doing on these ships. Why can’t I remember what you did do to my memory? I’m not crazy!!!”

Then as soon as she wakes up from her dream, she finds a letter with the heading: “What is lost will be found”, and inside it, it is written, “I found out what our father did; meet me in New York, and do not trust anyone-Your Brother.”

After waking up from her terrible dream, Maura then goes to the first-class dining where she meets Mrs Wilson, who then informs her about some of the guests present on the ship: Dr Reginald Murray, The French Couple Clemence and Lucian, The priest Ramiro and his brother Angel, Two mysterious ladies from china Yuk Je and Ling Yi.

After that, a Dornish man named Krester with a mysterious scar comes to the first class dining and asks for help for his sister Tove, who is in excruciating pain due to childbirth and will die if not treated.

No one in the first class is willing to help, including Dr Reginald Murray. Therefore Maura goes to the passenger class deck herself to check on Tove.

She helps Tove by turning the baby’s head tangled in the umbilical cord.

After that, due to a sudden panic attack, Maura goes out of the passenger class deck to the ship’s upper deck to get some air, where she meets Eyk Larsen, the ship’s captain.

As both are discussing that higher class passengers are not allowed to go in the second class, Eyk gets intervened by his crew that they are receiving some mysterious signal for the last 20 minutes, and they believe it is from the lost ship, The Prometheus.

The signal prints the coordinates: 42.4 North and 44.57 West.

Per the crew, they are still determining if this is actually from The Prometheus because they are not sending any SOS signal, just the coordinates.

Then Eyk also checked on the map, and as per Eyk, the ship was drifted off its course four months ago, and the sea current should have taken them north, not south; then how were they sending a signal from the south, and how did they end up here?

So have their answers on the following, they decide to go to the coordinates received to check whether the ship they are getting the signal from is Prometheus.

Later on, when Eyk addresses everyone in the dining hall of the first class, they are changing the ship’s course as they have received the signal they believe is from Prometheus.

But the passengers get worried, and some even disagree with this move, but Eyk replies there were 1423 passengers in Prometheus, and if even one of them is safe, then they should go and check on them.

Therefore the ship ultimately changed its course, and it was able to locate the Prometheus in that exact coordinate.

Still, the mysterious thing was there was no light in the ship, nor was anyone responding to the red SOS signal.

Hence captain Eyk decides he, along with Maura, the priest Ramiro and the few other members, will go in a lifeboat to Prometheus and check on who is alive on the ship and needs help.

Yes! they did find a boy inside a closet of Prometheus.

As the captain, Maura, and the rest of the crew went inside the ship, they found a green-coloured scarab beetle inside the cupboard.

After following the beetle, they see a crowbar purposely kept outside the cupboard.

It looked like someone had been kept inside it.

Then as Maura advances towards the cupboard, everyone notices that someone is hitting the cabinet hard, and it looks like someone was inside.

For the crew’s safety, Captain Eyk takes out his gun to defend themselves, and Maura courageously opens the cupboard door and sees a little boy coming out of it and gives her a black pyramid without uttering any word.

Then at the end, we also see another mysterious man from Prometheus swim to the rescue ship and enter one of the first-class passenger rooms (Room No: 1011) with the help of the same green-coloured scarab beetle.

We only got to see the face of the boy in episode 1; in the next episode, we will probably see more about these two mysterious guys.

One is the creep who swims to the rescue ship and the mysterious boy found in the Prometheus.

By the boy’s appearance, it doesn’t look like he was in The Prometheus for the last four months.

Plus, what does the black pyramid means? We will be back with episode 2 ending explained soon; stay tuned to MediaScrolls.
