Does Aegon II become the King in House of the Dragon Episode 9? Has the Dance of the Dragons officially begun?

The House of the Dragon Episode 9, “Green Council,” was probably one of the best episodes so far.

In the following episode, we see after the death of King Viserys I Targaryen, Queen Alicent Hightower informs her father, Otto Hightower, about King’s death. She says that during King Viserys’ dying moments, he wished Aegon II to replace him as the King of the Seven Kingdoms.

After discussing with Queen Alicent Hightower, Otto Hightower decides they need to find Aegon as soon as possible for the coronation.

In the meantime, they hold a council with Lyman Beesbury, Lord Buckler, Lord Butterwell, Tyland Lannister and the other members of King Viserys’ court to discuss King Aegon’s succession as the King.

With the proceeding of this meeting, we saw Lyman Beesbury speaking up against Otto Hightower’s transgressions and calling everyone in the council as traitors for supporting this treason and taking away the birthright of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen.

Because of this, Ser Criston Cole killed Beesbury during the secret council itself, and all the other court members agreed on the ascend King Aegon as the King.

Therefore Queen Alicent Hightower sends Ser Criston Cole and Aemond Targaryen to find where he is. Otto Hightower also sends er Erryk and Ser Arryk to find Aegon.

So what happened at the end? Does Aegon II become the King in House of the Dragon Episode 9? Has the Dance of the Dragon officially begun?

Does Aegon II become the King in House of the Dragon Episode 9?

Yes! Aegon II becomes the King in House of the Dragon Episode 9.

After conferring with the small council, Queen Alicent Hightower, Otto Hightower sends Ser Criston Cole, Aemond Targaryen, Ser Erryk and Ser Arryk to find Aegon.

Ser Criston Cole and Aemond Targaryen were sent from Alicent, and Otto Hightower sent Ser Erryk and Ser Arryk.

Ser Erryk and Ser Arryk managed to track down Aegon with the help of White Worm.

Mysaria, aka the White Worm, in return, asked Otto to shut down the whole child fighting ring that had opened inside King’s Landing.

After Ser Erryk and Ser Arryk manage to find Aegon II, Ser Criston Cole and Aemond also catch up with them, and then a fight between the parties.

Aegon II uses this chance to flee, but Aemond stops him; Aegon even pleads to his brother that he has no wish to be the King and let him go, but Aemond, loyal to his mother, brings him back to Red Keep so that his coronation can take place as soon as possible.

Then in the next dawn, as planned, the coronation takes place, and Ser Criston Cole himself puts the crown on Aegon II’s head and declares him as the King of Seven Kingdoms.

Has the Dance of the Dragons officially begun?

Yes! The Dance of the Dragons has officially begun.

As we know that after the death of King Viserys, few of the Targaryens will support Aegon II’s ascend to the Iron Throne rather than Queen Rhaenyra’s.

This will create a civil war between the House itself known as the Dance of the Dragons, where The Greens, aka Queen’s party, the faction of House Targaryen loyal to the rise of Aegon II as the King of the Seven Kingdoms, were opposed by The Blacks aka The Party of the Princess, the loyalists who supported the rise of Rhaenyra Targaryen as Queen of the Seven Kingdoms.

King Viserys Targaryen’s death was just a starring of the Dance of the Dragon.

In the next episode, we will see that to stop the bloodshed, Queen Alicent will propose to Queen Rhaenyra to keep the Dragonstone and let Aegon II be the King, but Rhaenyra and Daemon will protest and declare war against The Greens for stealing her birthright.
