A Recap of Only Murders In The Building Season 2 Episode 5: Is Jan Back?

Only Murders In The Building Season 2 Episode 5 has been titled “The Tell”.

The episode begins with Oliver’s son, Will, preparing a family tree for his son’s science project. A glance at Oliver’s photo from the 70s gives Will a chance to reminisce about his childhood with his father.

Will narrates that Oliver has always been the “observing” type and could tell about someone’s guilt by observing the tell-tale signs.

Oliver’s favourite party game used to be ‘Son of Sam’, in which he distributed random cards to everyone, one of which was Sam, the Killer, and the rest had to identify the killer.

Elsewhere, we find Charles in a meeting with Jan in prison. Jan lovingly reminisces about the time when she and Charles were together, while Charles reminds her that she once had tried to kill him.

Charles is there to talk to her because he wants a maniac killer’s perspective in the Bunny murder case. However, Jan outrightly rejects Nina as a potential killer.

When Charles says that the killer had composed the crime scene by planting incriminating pieces of evidence, Jan says that the killer is an artist or a storyteller and is unlikely to leave the scene until they have completed their story.

Meanwhile, Will’s son’s school play is a success. Will later mentions an ancestry test for his son’s science fair.

Elsewhere, Mabel investigates Arconia’s secret passageway while talking to Alice. Alice tells Mabel that her studio roof is leaking and asks whether she can have a small party at Mabel’s place, to which she agrees.

Mabel finds a blood-stained matchbook and shows it to Charles and Oliver.

Then, the trio of Charles Oliver and Mabel goes to the restaurant Bunny regularly visited. There, they find those matchbooks for everyone to use. Here, the waiter, Ivan, gives them the list of the regulars at the restaurant.

Mabel tells the other two that she is dating Alice and about their party at her aunt’s apartment.

Without an invitation, Charles and Oliver agree to come to the party. They also talk about Alice being a possible suspect as she is an artist.

Only Murders In The Building Season 2 Episode 5 Ending Explained: What is Alice Hiding?

At the party, it’s pretty evident that Alice is trying to flatter Charles and Oliver to get into their good books. Charles is floored when Alice mentions his Swiss movie, but Oliver is not the one to be flattered.

Oliver starts the game Son of Sam at the party to corner Alice. At the end of Oliver’s game, when only Mabel and Alice remain, Oliver accuses Alice of being a liar from her tell signs.

Alice confesses that she has lied about belonging to an affluent family and having studied at Oxford University. She says that she did this to gain legitimacy in the art field.

Charles finds this behaviour of Oliver to be sick and leaves the party. Mabel is angry at Alice for hiding her truth, but they kiss and patch up.

Oliver finds someone pushing the envelope through Bunny’s apartment door. He finds out that the envelope is addressed to Ivan containing currency.

Oliver confronts Ivan at his restaurant, where Ivan says he gave back Bunny’s money to avoid trouble.

Oliver asks Ivan if Ivan remembers anything significant about the time when Bunny was murdered. Ivan remembers that Bunny had met someone at the restaurant a day before her murder.

Unfortunately, Ivan was on leave that day. So, he couldn’t tell much. Finally, however, he shows Oliver the CCTV footage, where only the back of the stranger is visible, who later picks up a matchbook from the counter.

Meanwhile, the viewers see Charles receiving calls from Jan and taking bagels to her.

At the end of Only Murders In The Building Season 2 Episode 5, we find Will telling Oliver that the result of the genetic test has come, and, apart from his mom, the other side of his parentage comes from a Greek father!

Oliver immediately remembers the time when Teddy Dimas seemed to be hiding something from him.
