Flame Breathing is one of the five basic forms of breathing from which all other breathing techniques have been derived. Since the beginning of breathing techniques, the Rengoku family has been the master of Flame Breathing.

Each family member has been a Hashira, and that too, a powerful one. Before Kyojuro, his father, Shinjuro Rengoku, was the Flame Hashira and feared the strongest Hashira in his time.

But, he retired before his time. He passed upon his duties as a demon slayer. As a result, Kyojuro took over his place as the Flame Hashira and fulfilled his obligations.

But why do you think such a powerful Hashira would suddenly give up on his duties? Even though he was not injured, he retired as a Hashira. Let’s find out Why did Rengoku’s father leave the Demon Slayer Corps?

Demon Slayer: Why did Rengoku’s father leave the Demon Slayer Corps?

Kyojuro’s father, Shinjuro Rengoku, was the previous Flame Hashira. He was amongst the most formidable Hashiras and definitely one of the strongest users of the Flame Breathing Technique.

During his tenure as a member of the Demon Slayer Corps, Shinjuro slew hundreds of demons. He was one of the strongest Hashiras. He also cared deeply for his comrades and other people around him.

Shinjuro was the one who brought Obanai into the Demon slayer Corps who later became the serpent Hashira.

He was very devoted to his duty as a demon slayer and would easily give up his life in his line of duty to slay a demon or save innocent lives.

Shinjuro was very kind-hearted. He loved his wife and both of his sons very much. But unfortunately, his wife died due to illness after giving birth to Kyojuro’s younger brother.

The Flame Hashira was devastated by his wife’s death as he loved her the most. He started drinking during his missions and avoiding his duties as a demon slayer.

Shinjuro did not look after his children after his wife’s death as he was lost in his own pain and suffering.

Kyojuro took care of himself, his father, and his younger brother. He also took his mother’s words to protect the weak at all costs and lived by them until the very end of his life. After that, he trained on his own using the Flame Breathing texts in his house and became a demon slayer.

Shinjuro had lost himself deeper in his despair and eventually quit being a demon slayer. Instead, he retired as a Hashira way before his time and devoted himself to drinking and agony.

He also tore apart the original Flame Breathing manuscripts. Even after receiving news about his older son, Kyojuro’s death, he did not show any sorrow or emotions and called his son a fool for becoming a demon slayer. He and Tanjiro fought over the same, ending with Tanjiro headbutting Shinjuro and knocking himself unconscious.

Later on, when he came back to his senses, Shinjuro wrote letters to Tanjiro, apologising for his behaviour and expressing his sorrow at the death of his son. After that, he never talked much to him but always expected a lot from Kyojuro. He also added that he was proud of Kyojuro.
