Suppose you have missed out on Episode 27 and or if you didn’t understand why they chose to sacrifice themselves. Then do not worry. You have managed to land on the right page; as in this article, we will explain what happened to Theo Magath and Keith Shadis in Attack on Titan.

Are Theo Magath and Keith Shadis Dead? How did they Die?
Yes, both Theo Magath and Keith Shadis are dead from suicide bombing.
They bombed themselves up to secure the port so that Yeagerists could not get hold of Hange, Mikasa and the others.
They chose to do that because there was a Marley Crusier ship that Yeagerists captured earlier.
They wanted to destroy the Cruise Ship because more Yeagerists reinforcement was coming. If they use the Marley Cruiser Ship, they can easily get hold of the Marley Warrior Unit and Survey Corp and destroy the first ship. Theo decided not to take the risk; he decided they would go inside the Cruiser Ship and destroy it.
Keith Shadis also joined him, and he also earlier helped the group against the fight with Yeagerists. He earlier also helped them by attacking the reinforcement train of the Yeagerists and destroying it before it could reach to port.
Keith asked why he didn’t Theo leave with the group on the ship to that Theo replies there is a captured Marleyan Cruiser here as well, and it is fast enough to catch the ship and sink it as well, plus more reinforcement is about to arrive as well from the Yeagerists so he can’t just leave it here.

Therefore both of them goes inside the Marley Cruiser to destroy it. They get noticed by a few Yeagerists inside the ship.
Theo tells Keith to leave the Crusier as it is about to be destroyed. Keith replies don’t matter to him as he is looking for a good time to die anyway.
When Theo asked why he helped them anyway, Keith replied he noticed some of his old students heading south out of Shinganshina, seeing how much they have grown, and after understanding their plan, his heart was moved, so he decided to help them.
Theo also says his last words before destroying the ship. He says to Keith that he will soon be remembered as one of the heroes who saved the world.
Keith replies, “That will be two of us” Theo replies, “I refuse to give myself pat, I ignored my conscience, I ordered around the children to serve country’s interest and also commanded them to destroy the wall, all of these are my fault, those children could have lived a normal life, and I would be happy to see that now when all of these are over”.
Keith says ‘You might not be proud of yourself, but I am, after seeing what you have achieved” Keith hands down the gun to Theo to destroy the ship. Theo asks for Keith’s name before destroying the ship, then fires the gun one last time.
We see a massive explosion. Gabi, Hange, Pieck, Jean looks at the port far ahead, leaving Gabi and Pieck in tears. This marks the end of another significant character of Attack on Titan.
Theo Magath was considered one of the most influential Marley General and a father figure to Gabi, Falco, Pieck, Reiner and Annie. And On the other hand, Keith Shadis was the one who trained Reiner, Annie, Mikasa, Jean, Connie and Armin at the Survey Corp, so their death marks as another painful goodbye to one of our most loved characters in the series.
