One such question is How the Season 5 ending will affect the relationship between King Edward and Lord Uthred of Bebbunbarg? Will King Edward and Uthred be enemies now? And Will King Edward go after Uthred now in the next spin-off film, “Seven Kings Must Die.”
If you are also looking to answer that question, you have managed to land on the right page. This article will explain what happens between King Edward and Uthred in the Last Kingdom Season 5.
The Last Kingdom Season 5: What happens between King Edward and Uthred? Will they be Enemies now?
As we witness towards the ending of The Last Kingdom Season 5, Uthred and King Constantin of Scotland bargained a deal between which will involve the disputed land of Bebbunbarg will no longer be with King Edward’s House of Wessex’. Instead, they will be in between disputed land sworn to neither and ensure peace.
These were Uthred’s words to King Edward: “Constantine has withdrawn his claims to these lands. Edward asks why did he do that? Uthred replies because Uthred offered not to cede these lands to Edward, that’s why. Instead, we will remain between the two, sworn to neither, to ensure peace.”
King Edward, after hearing this, seemed annoyed with Uthred and asked him why he bargained the deal with King Constantin? And after all they have done, why did Uthred now betray the House of Wessex?
Uthred replied he did not betray the House of Wessex. He still thinks that the House of Wessex will reunite England eventually, but for that to happen, people need to believe in one true King who can convince people to stand together as one.
But King Edward’s recent actions demonstrated otherwise, such as the discord between Saxon and the Dane, like killing Sygtryggr. So therefore, he can’t be the person who will be able to reunite England, but a time will come we need to wait for it.
Uthred to King Edward: “I didn’t betray the House of Wessex. I’m sure that the House of Wessex will unite England eventually. You are the true King of the lands you hold, but the man who will be unifying this country must be a figure that the people can stand together as one. But Your action has shown that you are not that man as you have demonstrated discord between Saxon and Dane. But the future will come. Wait for it.”
After listening to these words coming from Uthred, it seemed like King Edward was not satisfied, and in the follow-up spin-off movie, King Edward may not be enemies with Uthred, but it is for sure that he might raise a conflict with King Constantin of Scotland regarding the disputed land which will eventually force Uthred to pick sides.
Plus, if you remember the ending of season 5, you will recall that after King Constantin and Uthred had a conversation with each other, King Constantin said these lands were disputed land.
He will always claim them, but he told Uthred not to cede with Edward for prolonged peace. And while returning, both King Edward and Constantin did share a vindictive glance at each other, which suggests that things are not over between the two, and there will be more conflict between them for sure.
Also, we saw Osbert, Uthred’s firstborn, returning to Bebbunbarg in the finale of season 5. He is the oldest son of Uthred. His mother, Gisela, died after giving birth to him and later on, the church raised him, and Hilde took care of him.
As being the oldest son of Uthred, we think Osbert will be one of the important characters of the forthcoming film “Seven Kings Must Die.
