The Last Kingdom Season 5 has landed on Netflix in its totality, leaving the viewers wondering if The Last Kingdom Season 6 is in the anvil. If you are wondering whether this historical fiction drama series will be renewed or cancelled, we have got you covered.

The inaugural season of The Last Kingdom, having eight episodes, premiered on BBC Two on October 10, 2015, and the second season was released on March 16, 2017.

Netflix has produced the third season of The Last Kingdom, and its ten episodes premiered simultaneously on November 19, 2018.

Season 4 of The Last Kingdom was released on Netflix on April 26, 2020, while the fifth and supposedly finale season was released on the same streaming platform on March 9, 2022.

Is The Show Being Renewed For The Last Kingdom Season 6?

Bernard Cornwell had initially written ten books in The Saxon Stories series of novels for The Last Kingdom franchise, and it was the plan from the very beginning of the show to adapt the two stories for each of the seasons.

So, The Last Kingdom Season 5 was always meant to be the finale season of this show, which infers that the show will not be renewed for The Last Kingdom Season 6.

However, there is some good news for the fans of this historical series. Bernard Cornwell has since added three new books in The Saxon Stories series of novels, War of the Wolf, Swords of Kings and War Lord.

Based on these books, Netflix has announced a feature film named Seven Kings Must Die, the shooting of which is expected to commence this year.
