Attack on Titan Episode 23 Recap: What is Annie Leonhart’s backstory? and Is Mr Leonhart dead or alive?

We have a detailed article on Attack on Titan Episode 23 Ending Explained, where we have explained all the happenings of Episode 23. You can refer to that as well, or else here will briefly explain what has happened in Episode 23.

The Attack on Titan Episode 23 starts with Stohess District, where Hitch Dreyse and the military soldiers pick up the survivors and the dead bodies of those who have lost their lives with the Rumbling.

The people are now divided into two groups: one who hates Eren Yeager because his Rumbling has killed thousands of people, while others believe this is just a small repayment for a greater good.

Annie Leonhart now wakes from his 4-year sleep, and she caught Dreyse from behind in the basement and tells her she will cut her throat if she shouts. Dreyse easily managed to pin down Annie Leonhart and said she doesn’t have the power to do anything, nor she can turn into a Titan now.

But she had a change of heart, and Dreyse didn’t blow up Annie’s cover. Annie tells Dreyse that the four long years inside the crystal was like a dream where she also used to listen to what Armin speaks to her and also heard on Dreyse’s endless rants on lousy men.

Annie’s opens up about her childhood as well. She revealed that her birth parents abandoned her after she was born. Her mother had an affair with an Eldian man, which was why she was born, but right after her birth, she was abandoned, and she was picked up by an internment zone foreigner of Eldian blood.

She was trained as a ruthless killing machine from her childhood as Mr Leonhart wanted Annie to become a soldier to have a good life. Years have passed, and she did this rigorous training repeatedly until she became a ruthless killer and repaid Mr Leonhart with all the beatings she had caused Annie earlier.

Leonhart’s training made Annie so strong that she could kill anyone without any weapon. Mr Leonhart wanted Annie to come back to her and leave the military that time; Annie had promised her father that she would return when her mission had finished, and now almost four years have passed, and she wants to meet her father for one last time before Eren kills him with his Rumbling.

Elsewhere we see Commander Keith suggesting the soldiers join forces with the Yeagerists as they will soon gain their control over the people of Paradis by winning their support.

Armin also tries to help Gabi to find Falco, Armin leaves right away with Gabi, and he says he will make sure that Falco doesn’t get killed by Connie.

On the other hand, Floch tries to be the new boss of the Yeagerists as he reveals he and Eren discussed their plans ten months before, and he planned to gain the power of Founding Titan by using Zeke then to start the Rumbling.

Mikasa asks Floch what happened to Captain Hange and Levi? Floch replies Zeke killed them, but that is not true.

At the end of Episode 23, we see the much-awaited return of Hange and Captain Levi. We see Pieck and Theo Magath discussing the Eren Rumbling that is when Hange Zoe arrives.

First, the Cart Titan tries to eat Hange, but Hange says she is entirely unarmed and need some help as Levi is barely living, and he will require Pieck and Theo Magath to lend some help to Levi.
