A Recap of The Afterparty Season 1 Episode 4

At the beginning of The Afterparty Season 1 Episode 4, we find Detective Danner announcing that Detective Culp will look into the disappearance of Jennifer 2. Her best friend, Jennifer 1, is very upset about the casual attitude of Detective Danner in this matter and even threatens to report the detective in front of the authorities.

Detective Danner takes Chelsea to a separate room to interrogate her. Aniq, as usual, has to hear what Chelsea has to say and hides in the adjacent room to overhear the conversation.

Chelsea confesses before the detective that Xavier had ruined her life, and she was here just to take her revenge on Xavier. Chelsea also mentions Saint Patrick’s day party fifteen years back, where it all had begun.

Without going into the details of the party, Chelsea said that she used to be the class president and the topper of her batch before Xavier ruined it all for her.

After the Saint Patrick’s day party, everyone started maintaining a distance from her, and they said she had gone mad. Everyone made fun of her and treated like a pariah.

Like she said to Danner that everyone comes to a reunion to flaunt one’s accomplishments, and Chelsea has none to boast of except for the fact that she is a veterinarian’s receptionist. Yet, she came to the reunion and later to the Afterparty to settle her score with Xavier.

In the entrance itself, Chelsea was brutally teased by the duo of Jennifer 1 and Jennifer 2, who were minding the reception counter. To add to her woes, Chelsea had been receiving threatening messages from an unknown number warning her not to come to the reunion.

Chelsea tells Detective Danner that she needs to be alone with Xavier for some time to implement her revenge plan, but Xavier keeps ignoring her. At the reunion, she also crashed into Zoe’s soon to be ex-husband, Brett, with whom she has some more bitter memories.

It turns out that Brett had come to the vet whom Chelsea works for to have his ailing dog put to rest, and the two got in a relationship because of which Brett’s marriage went to rocks.

During the reunion, Chelsea had a feeling that she was being followed. She later ran into Zoe and Aniq. Chelsea intentionally spilt her drink on Aniq, and while he was washing it off, she tried to speak to Zoe, but Zoe seemed visibly angry with her.

Xavier soon left with Zoe in his chopper for the Afterparty at his villa, and others too followed suit. Chelsea, Yasper and Aniq were in the same car, were in the backseat. Aniq found Chelsea’s flasks in her purse, and to her horror, drank some of it from one of them marked X.

Chelsea had laced the drink in the flask with a cat tranquillizer. She had planned to make Xavier drink it and knock him unconscious. Chelsea had intended to take his nude photos and circulate them online to make fun of him in his unconscious state.

At the Afterparty, Aniq passed out on the floor under the influence of the tranquillizer, and Ned painted a moustache on his face. Chelsea felt very sorry for him and wrote “I am sorry” on his hand. She then followed Xavier to his room and confronted him for ruining her life.

Chelsea then made Xavier repeat after her that he was an asshole and even made him sing it. It gave a vent to Chelsea’s pent up emotions, and she finally felt at peace with herself after a long time. After this, she decided to mend her relationship with everyone and had a heart to heart with Zoe.

This is when, as per Chelsea’s statement, Aniq gained consciousness and saw the pathetic condition he was in. He immediately went on to confront Xavier about this. He thought that Xavier had done this to him and claimed that Xavier came in between every time he tried to get close to Zoe.

Chelsea then tells Detective Danner that they all heard the sound of Xavier falling from his terrace soon after. Chelsea claims her innocence in all this by saying that if the cops run a test, they will find cat tranquillizer in her flask but not in Xavier’s body.

Chelsea then mentions Aniq’s name while saying something about the Saint Patrick’s day party but immediately retracts when Danner tries to dig deeper.

At this point, Detective Danner asks her associate to bring Aniq in front of her, to which she is informed that he is missing, much to Aniq’s dismay, who is listening in all from the adjacent room.
