Is All of Us Are Dead based on any books? Or is it similar anyway to Train to Busan? If you are looking for an answer to such questions well, you have landed on the right page. In this article, we will discuss whether ‘All of Us Are Dead’ is based on any books or is similar in any way to 2016’s famous Korean Drama Train to Busan. So without further ado, let’s get started.

All of Us Are dead is currently a new Netflix Korean drama released on 28 January 2022; the show is receiving quite a response from fans.

The show’s premise is set in a city called Hyosan where a school science teacher named Lee Byeong-chan (Byeong-Cheol Kim) of Hyosan High School. One day Lee Byeong learns that his son has been bullied badly in the school by the other students, so to help his son, he develops a virus that he believes can give his host some extraordinary abilities.

Unknowingly she tries to put her hands inside the box in order to give a pat the Rat, but the Rat bites her hands and infects her with the deadly virus; now Hyeon-Ju spreads this virus throughout the school, and as a result, the whole Hyosan High School becomes the ground zero of a zombie apocalypse.

All of Us Are Dead: What is it based on?

All of Us Are Dead is based on a Naver webtoon titled ‘Now at Our School’ by Joo Dong-Geun. The webtoon was released back from 2009 to 2011.

Much later on back in April 2020, Netflix announced in a press release that JTBC Studios and Film Monster would be going to make a series called ‘All of Us Are Dead’ based on the popular webtoon of the same Now at Our School in Korean (All of Us Are Dead in English).

Initially, it was planned for a release much before, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the filming was suspended for a few months back in August 2020, and thus, finally, now it has been released on Netflix.

All of Us Are Dead Season 2: Release Date and What to Expect?

Are there any similarities between All of Us Are Dead and Train to Busan?

All of Us Are Dead tells how a group of students bullies a fellow student to death. Therefore, his father had no other option but to develop a virus that he thought would give his son some unique abilities. But it doesn’t go as he had hoped for, so as a result, Lee Byeong’s son soon becomes a zombie. And Hyeon-Ju, a female student of the same school, gets infected by the deadly virus and starts spreading it.

Over the past decade, many zombie apocalypse horror films have been released, but most of them have one problem: the lack of originality to the story. And most of the zombie genre horror films which have been successful mostly belongs from Korea like Train to Busan, Seoul Station Peninsula, #Alive and many others.

Probably out of all these Zombie horror films, 2016’s Train To Busan is the most popular zombie movie of all time.

And as it turns out in the case of All of Us Are Dead, because of the originality of the script and story by Chun Sung-il and based on Joo Dong-Geun’s webtoon, Now at Our School, unlike other Zombie films, this down is quite different and digs down beneath the rotten flesh of our society.

The film’s premise is on Hyosan High School, and here we see all types of things happening in the school like bullying, sexual harassment, etc.

From here, we can get some idea that even the high school life in Korea is similar to other western countries where the students are constantly suffering from depression and anxiety from being in this environment.

While All of Us Are Dead doesn’t feature sex scenes and drugs, unlike most Western shows like Euphoria, it does explore these sections to some extent. Plus, along with that, the show features some romance as well.

All of Us Are Dead features lots of bloodshed, severed body parts and gore. And just like Train to Busan, as the story progresses, you will get firmly hooked to the storyline.

Therefore, there are no similarities between All of Us Are Dead and Train to Busan. But, the character development, depth in the plot, and the beautiful execution of the show’s emotional resonance set this new series far ahead of any other Post Apocalyptic Zombie series.

We think it is even better than Train to Busan to some extent. So if you haven’t watched the series, don’t wait any longer. Please tune into Netflix and watch All of Us Are Dead as soon as possible because it will be trending for sure in the coming days.
