The Byrde family, though completely fractured from within, has become powerful enough to be able to broker a deal between the FBI and the cartel leader.

Created by Mark Williams and Bill Dubuque, Ozark is a crime drama series that exposes the deep underbelly of the drug mafia and tells the tale of Marty Byrde, the money launderer of the influential Mexican Navarro cartel.

A Recap of Ozark Season 4 Part 1
Ozark Season 4 Part 1 begins in a flash-forward, which shows the Byrde family going to Chicago in their minivan. While discussing a future meeting with the FBI, Marty loses his concentration, and the van meets with an accident.
Marty and Wendy find themselves at Navarró’s son’s baptism party, washing off Helen’s blood in the washroom in the present timeline. They are later introduced to Navarro’s nephew, Javi.

Navarro later reveals to Marty that Javi is in a hurry to take over the reins of the cartel and will eliminate anyone who comes in his way.
Navarro asks Marty and Wendy to broker a deal with the FBI, where he is granted immunity against prosecution. In return, Navarro offers to retire from the cartel. Marty agrees to arrange a meeting.
Elsewhere, Javi kills Sheriff Nix, who was investigating Helen’s disappearance. Javi asks Marty to dispose of the body and clean up any evidence at Helen’s house.
A pharmaceutical company agrees to donate a considerable sum to the Byrde Family Foundation in a drug deal.
Wendy intends to gain more power for her family by using this money to bribe politicians. She even tries to persuade Senator Schafer to join the board of the family foundation.
While Jonah remains upset with Marty and Wendy over Ben’s death, Ruth also leaves their casino and becomes Darlene’s partner. Jonah begins to launder money for Ruth and Darlene. Even when Wendy builds an outdoor shrine in memory of Ben, Jonah remains unmoved.
What is the FBI deal in Ozark Season 4 Part 1?
Maya Miller explains to Navarro the details of the FBI deal on board his plane.
It so happens that the FBI wants Navarro to remain the cartel leader and also act as a double agent for the investigative agency. Though not happy with the deal, Navarro is forced to accept it.
Maya later arrests Navarro, which makes the agreement come to a nought. Marty and Wendy try to convince Javi that he needs to take up a similar deal with the FBI.
Javi, too, gets a similar offer from the FBI that he is to act as the head of the cartel and also work as an FBI informant at the same time.
However, the FBI’s ultimate plan is to arrest Javi, and the deal is an eyewash, just to keep him in their sight.
Ozark Season 4 Part 1 Ending Explained
Darlene and Wyatt get married in a cosy ceremony in Ozark Season 4 Part 1. However, their happiness is shortened by Javi’s arrival at Darlene’s place, who brutally guns down the couple.


When Ruth finds out about the murder of her beloved cousin, she vows to take revenge on the killer. She suspects that either Frank Jr or Marty and Wendy have killed Wyatt.
When Jonah reveals to Ruth the killer’s identity, we find her storming off with a gun in her truck at the ending of Ozark Season 4 Part 1.
However, she stops by the side of the road while on her way, which indicates that she is smart enough to think of a strategy before killing the influential cartel leader.
The beginning sequence of Ozark Season 4 Part 1, where the Byrde family is shown to be leaving Ozark and later meeting with an accident, has not been explained. Whether the family survived this accident and managed to return to Chicago remains to be seen.
Ozark is the beach town where Marty is forced to relocate his family when his partner Bruce Liddell, who is later eliminated, is caught skimming away the cartel’s money.
