Does Tanjiro become a Demon in Demon Slayer? and How does he become a Demon?

Demon Slayer is one of the best and most loved anime with some of the best animations of all time.

But how do you think would it end? Yupp you guessed it right, there are spoilers ahead, so you might have to think once before reading.

One of the biggest questions is, “Does Tanjiro become a Demon?” And the answer is YES! In the end, after defeating all the Upper Demon Moons and the demon king Kibutsuji Muzan, you all might think that it’s the end but guess what, it’s not.

After the Hashiras, along with Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Kanao, defeat the Six Upper Demon Moons, they fight the Demon King Kibutsuji Muzan himself.

They all are way past their limits and in no condition to fight, but they know better than anyone else that it is now if they have any chance of defeating him.

The Hashiras and Tanjiro fight Muzan with all their might, but he is too strong to defeat, and thus they know that there is only one way to finish him off.

They must hold him till dawn and burn him in the Sun as it is the only way to kill him.

Eventually, they managed to hold him throughout the night till sunrise, but the cost was high. On coming in contact with Sunlight, Muzan started to burn and tried to seek shade, but he could not.

He decided that he would pass on his will to Tanjiro, and in hoping that he would become the Demon King who would defeat the Sun, Muzan passed all of his blood to Tanjiro, making him the strongest demon ever!

Why does Tanjiro become a Demon?

In his last dying moments, the Demon King Kibutsuji Muzan transferred all of his blood into Tanjiro, who was closest to him. Muzan’s body exploded in a mass of flesh and engulfed Tanjiro within it, and he transferred all of his blood into it.

Tanjiro has received almost all of Muzan’s blood, thereby making him far stronger than any Upper Demon Moon itself. Tanjiro is the only one who can use the original breathing of Yoriichi Tsugikuni, the Sun breathing, and his sister, Nezuko Kamado, is the only demon to have an immunity against the Sun.

Considering all these facts, Muzan believes that Tanjiro is the one who could fulfil his greatest ambition and become the Demon King who would conquer the Sun.

He passes on his will to the next Demon, King Tanjiro Kamado and asks him to kill all the humans in the entire world.

After this, everyone believes that Tanjiro is dead and cries for his death, but suddenly he opens his eyes and stares at everyone with a demonic gaze.

Tanjiro’s arm, which had been cut before during the battle, regrows, and his face shows his utter desire to kill humans.

Tanjiro completely turns into a demon! The water hashira, Giyu Tomioka, is the first to come out of shock and protect the humans around Tanjiro as he attacks them.

Giyu shouts for help and asks that anyone with the strength to fight come to his aid as Tanjiro has transformed into a demon.

Inosuke is the first to arrive, but he could not attack his dear friend. He remembers how kind Tanjiro was and could not strike him. Zenitsu is also shocked by this sudden development.

Tanjiro’s body begins to burn due to sunlight, and he tries to seek shade under a fallen building.

But Tomioka knows better than anyone that the only way to prevent Tanjiro from becoming an actual demon is to kill him before his soul tarnishes and he kills another human.

With great effort, Tomioka manages to stall Tanjiro in sunlight and prevent him from going under the shade.

But things turn south, Tanjiro’s body stops burning, and he can withstand the sunlight. He no longer needs to remain in the dark as he had become what Demon King Muzan hoped for.

Tanjiro has become the Demon King who has conquered the Sun and will rule over the entire world.

What Manga does Tanjiro become a Demon?

Tanjiro becomes a Demon in chapter 201 of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Manga. In this chapter, Tanjiro wakes up with a demonic gaze in his eyes. His left arm, which he had lost in the previous battle, grows back to its original, and Tanjiro develops fangs and claws.

His demon slayer mark also grows and develops further from the other side of his head and neck. Tanjiro also drools profusely, showing his demonic desire to kill the humans.

Thanks to Giyu Tomioka’s presence of mind and immediate action, no other human dies as he saves the Kakushi present there from Tanjiro’s attacks.

But it is not the end. After Tanjiro conquers the Sun, Tomioka is shocked to see that he can no longer be burnt in the sun as he had dearly hoped that Tanjiro would die as the kind human he was. Tanjiro took advantage of Tomioka’s shock and attacked him.

Tomioka barely manages to prevent a fatal blow and gets nicked at the chin. He bleeds heavily and is drowsy with the loss of blood. Just then, Kanao arrives at the scene.

Though horrified, she steps up to face him in a last attempt to save him.

Shinobu Kocho, the former Insect Hashira, had prepared an extra bottle of antidote to turn demons back to humans as she feared that in the end, there might be no medicine left for Nezuko, Tanjiro’s sister.

There had been only three antidotes, but Shinobu prepared an extra and handed it to Kanao in case of emergency. Kanao had the antidote, but to give it to Tanjiro is something else as he is the Demon King who has conquered the sun.

Who are the 10 Most Powerful Demon Slayers in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Anime?

When does Tanjiro become a Demon?

Since Tanjiro turned into a demon in chapter 201 of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Manga and had conquered the Sun, only one last hope exists to turn him back into a human.

Kanao must attack Tanjiro and pin him down so that she can administer him the antidote and save him.

Kanao had already lost an eye in the battle. With her last strength and resolve, she activates late Insect Hashira Shinobu Kocho’s  Flower Breathing, Final Form: Equinoctial Vermilion Eye, and attacks Tanjiro. Even with just one eye, she manages to avoid his attacks.

Recognising the moves, Giyu too joins in the fight. When Tanjiro attacks Kanao, she black flips and manages to inject the antidote in tanjiro.

But he manages to strike her in the torso, and she collapses to the ground and bleeds.

Even in her last moments, she managed to inject Tanjiro with the antidote and asked him to return back to them.

She asks him to think of his dear sister Nezuko and return back to them. Kanao’s words and the antidote finally takes effect, and Tanjiro drops unconscious.

After a battle with his inner self and realising the emotions of his friends and dead comrades, Tanjiro wakes up as a human. Let’s cover it in detail some other time as this already has been too much.

Well, these were loads of spoilers, but still, it would be awesome to watch the final arc of Demon Slayer.
