The Morning Show Season 2 Ending Explained

The Morning Show Season 2 ending deserves a separate discussion of its own. The show has been inspired by Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV, Brian Stelter’s non-fiction book released in 2013.

In The Morning Show Season 2, we get to see about the personal and professional lives of the staff and all the anchors of the breakfast program. The show comes up on the UBA network, a fictional network. All the other TV shows all report about the media and other news.

However, in The Morning Show, the audience will see a version of headlines that deals with real life.

The #MeToo Movement had already started, and the impact that it has left is pervasive. The movement has impacted several fields like media, entertainment, politics, and several other aspects related to a person’s life.

The first season of the show was focused on sexual misconduct in the workplace. By the time the show was about to get into works for the second season, there was the United States Presidential Election, and to top it all up, came the COVID-19 pandemic. Hence the new season deals with these matters.

The Morning Show Season 2 starts right where the first show had ended. Jennifer Aniston’s character, Alex, and Reese Witherspoon’s character Bradley bring out how Fred Micklen, the UBA President, has allowed Steve Carell’s character, Mitch Kessler, to continue with such behavior.

Billy Crudup’s character, Cory, has made a deal with Fred. This made has made him the CEO of the network. For this, he had to secure a 190.2 million dollars severance package.

We see that Alex then quits and moves over to Maine. However, her stay in Maine does not last for a long period.

Bradley puts in his best effort to hold down the fort when she is not there. We see that Cory somehow persuades Alex to return to work as the ratings have been going down a lot.

Alex’s return was supposed to bring many good things, but things didn’t go out as planned. She is scared about the content that lies in Maggie Brener’s book. The book has tons to talk about the relationship between Alex and Mitch.

Alex brings in her producer, Chip. Mark Duplass plays this character. She has been able to get with dismay of Cory, Greta Lee’s character Stella Bak (the president of the news), and Karen Pittman’s character, Mia. However, all of them accept Alex’s decision.

By The Morning Show Season 2 end, we notice that the lives have become very complicated for all the characters in the show. Bradley and Laura Peterson, played by Julianna Margulies, get into a relationship.

She realizes that she can have a happy life staying in this relationship.

As her happy times continue, she sees Hal, her brother, coming up to her door. She is reminded of her disgusting past. We see that Mitch’s character is short-lived in the show as he dies when his car falls over the cliff.

Alex does not take it very well, and she then makes a video of her speaking at Mitch’s memorial. This video of her gets leaked all over social media, due to which Alex gets ‘canceled.’

In The Morning Show Season 2’s ending, we see that Alex has been affected by COVID-19. This was why the season finale was given the name ‘Fever.’ Bradley starts panicking and starts looking everywhere for her brother.

Alex tells her to go out to social media and ask for help.

Daniel feels that he must make a few decisions that are going to shape up his future properly. Cory tells Bradley about his feelings for her, but before Bradley could react, someone called her up, saying that they knew where her brother was.

What happens to Alex in The Morning Show Season 2 ending?

After Alex returns from Italy, we see that she falls ill. Everyone starts fearing the worst-case scenario to which they are all proven correct. Alex has fallen into the traps of the COVID-19 virus.

Stella and Mia make up their mind that they will not be informing the other staff about Alex’s condition. They say that one among them has been contracted with the virus, so everyone should stick to working from home.

Chip thinks of proposing his plan to Cory about making a show where Alex would be the speaker. She would be sharing her experiences after being affected by the virus. Cory thinks about it for some time and then finally agrees to the plan.

We then see that Stella does not want to put Alex on the primetime. He then transfers the entire program to UBA+.

The Morning Show Season 2 ending scenes showcase the scenes in the United States during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. We see how the people have been struggling to get used to such a life in the pandemic.

Alex goes through the firsthand experience of suffering from the virus. She was also scared to know about numerous Covid-19 patients’ demise in the US.

She indulges herself in long showers with the hope that her temperature will go down. She is also in constant touch with her doctor. Her doctor advises her to stay licked at home and constantly check her body temperature and her breathing.

After making Cory agree to the plan, Chip meets Alex and tries to convince her to be the show’s host. Alex feels scared about the fact that he might also get affected by the virus.

Chip tells her that he has already gone through suffering COVID-19 and is right now asymptomatic.

We see Alex finally agreeing to come in front of the hostile world when she is at her weakest and most vulnerable form. Near the ending of The Morning Show Season 2, we see that Alex has done a lot of shows to get over all her fears and insecurities.

In The Morning Show Season 2, neither does Alex die nor lets any outsider dictate her life methods. She slowly turns into a much better version of herself when considered in terms of emotions and terms of physical health.

We have no idea about the effect that has been left on the viewers who have watched her show. But one thing we are assured about is that the show has saved Alex in several ways.

Is Chip suffering from COVID-19 as well?

We see that Chip makes his way to Alex’s home to talk about the new show that he has planned. When Alex tells him that it will not be safe, he says that he already had COVID-19, and now he is just asymptomatic to the virus.

However, in season 2 ending, we know that Chip has lied about suffering from COVID-19.

We see that Alex makes up her mind not to follow the teleprompter in the finale episode. She goes on to talk about Chips’ analysis which has made her accept the responsibility.

She also thanked Chip for giving her the perfect support when she needed it the most. After this, Chip received a call from his girlfriend, Madeleine.

This is the first time Madeleine got to know that Chip has been suffering from COVID. Chip decides he will not pick up the call and he continues doing his work.

In The Morning Show Season 2 Finale, we also find that Chip had not even got himself tested before coming over to meet Alex. He has been openly exposed to this deadly virus.

Even if he had been tested earlier and had come negative, that is immaterial at this point.
