Planet of the Dead: When Will The Army of the Dead Sequel Arrive on Netflix?

 Army of the Dead director Zack Snyder has already announced the next Army of the Dead sequel, Planet of the Dead. 

Released back in May 2021, the Army of the Dead was among the most-watched films on Netflix. 

The prequel called Army of Thieves was released on Netflix on October 29, 2021. 

Both the films have been loved by the fans so far. After Army of Thieves’ success, it has now been revealed that Zack Snyder will be coming with the sequel to Army of the Dead, which has been titled Planet of the Dead. 

In Army of the Dead, we saw Scott Ward(David Batista) and his team try to pull off the biggest and impossible heist on Las Vegas, which was one of the prominent zombie-affected areas. 

The sequel will be based on the incidents after the Army of the Dead ending where we saw Dieter trapped inside the Götterdämmerung safe along with the alpha zombie Zeus and Vanderohe notices that he has been bitten by one of the zombies. He is now carrying the pathogen to Mexico. 

In an interview with Inverse, when Zack Snyder was asked about the franchise’s future and whether we will see Ludwig Dieter again in the future or not, Snyder teased that the ill-fated locksmith and the king of zombies have now been locked inside the legendary Götterdämmerung. 

So, now the real adventure would be to see what happens to him when the door is closed. Will he be attacked by Zeus, or will Zeus have other plans for him? 

As we know, Zeus is not like other mindless zombies, so that he might have other ideas with Ludwig Dieter. 

Plus, we didn’t see him dying in the film, so there is a huge possibility that he is alive. 

Plus, with the time loop theory of Army of Thieves, there might be a case that the next film will showcase some other timeline where Ludwig Dieter would be alive, and the team would have successfully executed the heist in Las Vegas. 

Zack further said that he would not reveal what happens in Army of the Dead, aka Planet of the Dead, and if Dieter is alive and if that is the case. 

He will find his lover Gwendoline for sure, as in the finale of Army of Thieves finale, we saw Dieter promising that he would meet Gwendoline one day for sure. 

When will Army of the Dead 2 or Planet of the Dead arrive? 

There is no fixed release date of Army of the Dead 2 or Planet of the Dead. But the good news for all the fans is that Netflix has renewed the film. 

Coming to the release date of Army of the Dead 2 or Planet of the Dead, the director of the film Zack Snyder has another project with Netflix, i.e., sci-fi movie, Rebel Moon.

It is expected that Rebel Moon is scheduled to release before the Army of the Dead sequel, so therefore to watch Army of the Dead 2 or Planet of the Dead, we will have to wait till 2023. 

But there is nothing to worry about. There will also be another prequel to Army of the Dead, an animated series titled “Army of the Dead: Las Vegas,” also be releasing which will tell us how the zombie pathogen was created in the first place and who was behind it. 

The animated prequel series is expected to release in spring 2022. 

What to Expect from Army of the Dead 2 or Planet of the Dead?

In the ending of Army of the Dead, we see the military nuking the whole city to destroy the zombies. 

In the post-credit scene, we noticed that Vanderohe (Omari Hardwick) had been bitten by one of the zombies, and now he is unknowingly carrying the virus to Mexico. 

The bite was from one of the alpha zombies, Zeus. Plus, Zeus is now locked inside the safe with Dieter. 

So what will happen to Dieter now?

Will he manage to stay alive and somehow kill Zeus? Or will it be the other way around?

Well, only the sequel can answer this. 

As the bite is from the alpha zombie, Zeus, so as per our assumption we think Vanderohe will turn into a zombie eventually and he will infect others with the pathogen.

Plus, as the sequel title suggests, “Planet of the Dead” also suggests the same.

Who can be there in the cast for Planet of the Dead? 

Planet of the Dead release date hasn’t been announced yet if we had to guess, we can see the following people returning in the sequel as they are alive in Army of the Dead.

Kate (Ella Purnell), pathogen carrying Vanderohe (Omari Hardwick), Scott Ward (David Batista), Mikey Guzman (Raúl Castillo), Geeta (Huma Qureshi). 

From the Army of Thieves movie also, we can see a few casts returning. However, the fate of Ludwig Dieter seems uncertain at the moment as he is locked in the safe with Zeus. 

The casts that can return are Matthias Schweighöfer as Ludwig Dieter and Nathalie Emmanuel as Gwendoline Starr. 

Here what happens to Dieter would be interesting to watch as he was locked inside the Götterdämmerung with the alpha zombie Zeus. 

And as Snyder earlier revealed in the interview that “The real adventure would see what happens to Dieter and what happens behind the close door of the vault?” 

Plus, we didn’t see him dying in the film, so there is still a great chance that Dieter might be alive.

In addition to the upcoming sequel of Army of the Dead, “Planet of the Dead,” there is an animated series on the cards as well. 

The animated series has been titled Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, which will tell us the actual reason behind the zombie outbreak in Las Vegas. 

The animated series will feature some of the big names in the cast.

Some notable mentions are Christian Slater, Joe Manganiello, Harry Lennix, Anya Chalotra, Ross Butler, Vanessa Hudgens, and Jena Malone. 

The Animated series titled Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas will be a six-episode series that will give us a complete back story behind the zombie outbreak in Las Vegas. 

Zack Snyder has also revealed in an interview that the animated series might feature Area 51, where we would get to see a back story like what was plans from the government officials were and how their plans got failed; there might also be inter-dimensional travels and everything. 

So judging by Zack Snyder’s comments on the upcoming animated prequel series, we can surely expect the animated series to be a fabulous prequel to the original Army of the Dead.
