Is There Going To Be A Dune Sequel? What To Expect From It?

Following the positive response that Dune has garnered, the fans of this science fiction, action-adventure movie are wondering about the Dune sequel and when it will be released. Here is everything we know about the Dune sequel.

The movie, Dune, premiered at the 78th Venice International Film Festival on September 3, 2021.

It got released in theatres across the United States of America on October 22, 2021, and a day earlier, on October 21, 2021, it was released on HBO Max for a month.

Is There Going To Be A Dune Sequel?

As for the Dune sequel, the makers are yet to confirm this officially.

However, the director, Denis Villeneuve, even before the production of Dune, had split the first Dune book into two parts. As Dune was based on the first part, the sequel will be based on the second part.

Denis Villeneuve has confirmed that he would like to begin shooting the sequel in 2022 after the pre-shooting preparations like sets and costumes are in place.

Author, Frank Herbert, had written five Dune sequel books.

So, there is no shortage of matter for the sequel movies, and we can expect to see many more films in this franchise.

If everything goes as planned, viewers can expect to watch the Dune sequel in 2024.

Who Can We Expect To See in the Dune Sequel?

Dune star cast includes Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides, Stellan Skarsgard as Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Zendaya as Chani, Sharon Duncan Brewster as Dr. Liet-Kynes, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, and Babs Olusanmokun as Jamis, along with some other actors.

As some of the characters like Oscar’s Duke Leto, Jason’s Duncan, Chang’s Dr. Wellington, Dastmalchian’s Piterdevries, and Olusanmokun’s Jamis die in Dune, they might appear in flashbacks and visions in the sequel.

While some new characters are expected to appear in the sequel, the main characters are expected to reprise their roles.

What To Expect From The Dune Sequel?

The sequel might see the rest of Paul’s vision of being the messianic leader of the Fremen and being alienated to his home planet, Caladen, coming true.

Paul may get to marry Chani and have children in the sequel.

With one of Duke’s military advisors, Duncan Idaho, dead, Paul might try to meet the other advisor, Gurney Halleck, who might help him become the Emperor himself.

Dune revolves around Paul, whose father, Duke Leto Atreides, is entrusted with the control of the desert planet, Arrakis, by the Emperor, Shaddam IV.

The peace and existence of Arrakis is being threatened by the evil Harkonnen’s because of the exclusive availability of the life elongating spice, “Melange,” in Arrakis, which is the most precious substance in the universe.

Paul is being haunted by visions of the future, where he sees himself becoming the messianic leader of the Fremen, the natives of Arrakis, and he also sees himself being involved with a Fremen girl.

Paul and his mother, Jessica, survive the Harkonan’s attack on the House Atreides and meet the Fremen leader, Stilgar, and his warriors.

Stilgar’s warrior, Jamis, challenges Paul to mortal combat, which Paul wins, and has to kill Jamis to fulfill the condition of the duel.

Paul and Jessica then get accepted amongst the Fremen and are given new names.

Paul also gets to meet the Fremen girl of his dreams, who helps him win the duel by giving him Crysknife.

Though the director, Villeneuve, has not provided an end credit scene containing information about Dune’s sequel plot points, there definitely are plans for a sequel in the near future.
