Money Heist Season 5 Part 1 Recap and Ending Explained: Did Tokyo Just Die in Money Heist?

Money Heist Season 5 Part 1 has become a lot more intense than the previous season. It is no longer just a heist and has turned into a war quite literally. Money Heist Season 5 Part 1 consists of a lot more action, and the war has become more personal after Nairobi’s death. Money Heist Season 5 Part 1 also shows several moments of matriarchy with the three remaining females (Tokyo, Lisbon, and Stockholm) taking charge after Nairobi’s death. Money Heist Season 5 Part 1 Recap

Money Heist Season 5 Part 1 begins with Alicia Sierra (played by Najwa Nimri) holding the Professor (played by Álvaro Morte) at gunpoint and asking him to reveal his plan by threatening him.

Then, she ties him up and tortures him in an attempt to extract some information about his plan. When he does not seem to take all the threatenings seriously, she shoots his foot, and he finally tells her that they would be escaping from the Bank of Spain through the stormwater tank. However, he does not tell her anything else, no matter how hard she tries.

A new character is introduced in Money Heist Season 5 Part 1 as we see a flashback of Berlin (played by Pedro Alonso) meeting his son, Rafael, played by Patrick Criado. The viewers soon find out that the two do not share a good relationship, but they seem to try to fix their relationship in the flashback. Berlin introduces his former wife, Tatiana (played by Diana Gómez), to his son in the scene. The viewers had seen her in the last season getting married to Berlin.

Meanwhile, Tamayo (played by Fernando Cayo), who is in charge of the Bank of Spain operation, decides to call the army when they realize that Lisbon or Raquel (played by Itziar Ituño) has escaped from the police and entered the bank right in front of their eyes.

He calls Sagasta, a military man who is known was ruthlessly killing people in undercover operations and asks him to lead a team into the bank. Sagasta agrees to the proposal only if he is allowed to take his operational squad with him as he refuses to work with anyone who would think before killing someone.

Tamayo also starts ordering the police officials to fabricate the evidence and somehow prove that Sierra is a criminal so that they can put all the blame for their inefficiency on her.

When Ángel Rubio (played by Fernando Soto) tries to stop him from doing illegal things, he threatens and tempts Ángel to keep quiet about all the illicit activities going on in the tent outside the Bank of Spain.

The team loses all hope when they find out that Alicia has captured the Professor. The little hope they have left is also shattered when the Professor tells them that the stormwater tank they were going to escape has been discovered, and then Lisbon reveals that there is no Plan B for that. Yet, they continue with their plans to survive.

The three ladies, Tokyo, Lisbon, and Stockholm (played by Esther Acebo), take charge by going out without masks to negotiate with Tamayo.

He offers to wait for an hour before sending army troops into the building, only if they release Gandia, who needs immediate medical help. The trio notices that the police do not know about the Professor getting caught. They create a new plan, and they agree to release Gandia.

Back inside the Bank of Spain, the group cannot stand the stand of Gandia, who killed Nairobi in the previous season. A fight breaks out between them. The hostages use this distraction to steals some of their guns and run to a safe vault.

A gunfight starts between the team and the hostages. Arturo, being the kind of person he is, gets drunk on power and loses his mind. He starts using different weapons, keeps provoking Denver because of their complicated link, and even injures Denver, along with two hostages.

In the act of self-defense, Stockholm shoots Arturo. Arturo was confident that she would not kill him as he would be the person who could take care of her son if they die during the heist.

They send him outside to try to save him by getting adequate medical facilities. After some of the hostages are released, the police try to twist the facts once again. Stockholm finds it extremely difficult to cope up with the trauma of her first murder.

While seeing Tamayo frame Alicia for crimes she clearly did not commit and continuing to extract information from the Professor, her water breaks, and she goes into labor.

Professor offers to help her, and after a lot of hesitation, she releases him and lets him help her deliver her baby. She gives birth to a daughter while the army troops prepare for their entrance into the building. The army enters the building, and that is when the real war begins.

After making his son quite uncomfortable already, Berlin reveals that he wants Rafael to join him in his next heist. It takes a lot to persuade an engineer to give up his life of comfort and become a robber.

However, Berlin eventually manages to convince Rafael. They execute the robbery not just with perfection but also with grace.

Money Heist Season 5 Part 1 also shows glimpses of Tokyo’s former boyfriend, Renee, who had died right before Tokyo met the Professor for the first time.

It is also revealed that Berlin insisted on bringing Tokyo into the team even when the Professor was apprehensive about it initially. Money Heist Season 5 Part 1 ends with the death of Tokyo.

During their fight with the army, Tokyo gets shot multiple times. However, all the fans of the series know how strong she is. She continues to fight till her last breath and helps the rest of the group to escape.

Does Tokyo Die in Money Heist Season 5 Part 1?

Unfortunately, yes. Money Heist Season 5 Part 1 ends with Tokyo sacrificing her life to save the rest of the group. When the Professor finds evidence against Tamayo for framing others to save himself, Tamayo is forced to prevent the second army troop from going inside the Bank of Spain. However, they take positions in front of the building and aim at the windows to shoot inside.

On receiving information from the army troop inside, they begin shooting, and several bullets hit Tokyo. However, this does not stop her, and she keeps shooting till her very last breath. When Stockholm informs them about a passage available for them to escape, she knows that she would not be able to hold on to a rope and go six floors below them because of her severe injuries.

So, she decides to stay back and keep firing and asks everyone else to escape. The army eventually approaches her and kills her by shooting her several times.

Does Arturo Finally Die in Money Heist Season 5 Part 1?

When Arturo starts mocking Denver and Stockholm and also says that he is confident that Stockholm would never kill him, she shoots him twice, only to protect herself. She immediately regrets it, and the team starts trying to save his life, only to realize that Arturo has got no pulse. However, Stockholm insists that they keep trying and finally manage to get his pulse back.

Then, they send him out of the Bank of Spain to get the medical help he needs. There is a very low possibility of him surviving, considering his situation. However, though Tamayo is heard saying that he is almost dead after Arturo is taken out, there has not been any confirmation about his death.

Who is Berlin’s Son?

Money Heist Season 5 Part 1 introduces Berlin’s son, Rafael. Rafael is an electronics engineer with a post-graduation degree in cybersecurity from MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), an extremely renowned engineering institute. He does not have a good relationship with his father as Berlin blames him for ruining all the fun in his life by being born. That probably changes after he joins his father for a heist.

At the beginning of Money Heist Season 5 Part 2, the father-son duo is shown to meet after a long time and go to a restaurant for lunch. There, Berlin asks Rafael to join him in his heist, he refuses, saying that an engineer like him would never want to live a life full of uncertainty.

However, Berlin tells him that he paid for college so that Rafael’s knowledge could help him execute heists in a better way. After a lot of effort, Berlin finally manages to convince him, and he turns out to be very useful to them.

As all the scenes involving Rafael were flashbacks in Money Heist Season 5 Part 1, he will play an essential role in Money Heist Season 5, Part 2. After all, the Professor always has a plan for every situation.

After the Professor is set free, he immediately helps her deliver the baby and even arranges for things the baby might need. This seems to melt Alicia’s heart, and she starts cooperating with them. However, soon after, he secretly hides a knife under her sleeve, which indicates that she is probably planning something more extensive.

Money Heist Season 5 Part 1 shows Alicia Sierra hiding a knife in her sleeve even when the Professor helps her deliver her baby, and they seem to reach some sort of peace.

It seemed as if they had started trusting each other, and the Professor even arranges the things that the baby would require.
