Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 Episode 7 Recap

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 Episode 7 has been titled “Game of Boyles.” The episode begins on the Boyle family farm, where Charles’ great uncle Pappy Boyle dies. Jake and Terry decide to accompany Charles to the funeral as Terry needs a break from his kids, Cagney and Lacey, while Jake is bored of staying at home due to his suspension and craving some human interaction.

After reaching the Boyle family farm, they find that the place is filled with nutria. Charles explains how nutria is different from a rat and that his family keeps them as pets.

Then, Charles’ cousin, Sam Boyle, tells Charles that they can’t find Pappy’s will. All of Pappy’s money would go to cousin Lindon, the black sheep of the family, if they don’t find it. Hearing this, Jake suggests that Pappy’s death is a murder, considering the fact the will is missing and that he was rich and fit.

Jake starts investigating and discovers an ulcer in Pappy’s mouth, which is a sign of poisoning. After interrogating cousin Lindon, Jake does not get any substantial evidence.

However, he then finds a strand of brown hair on the box of rat poison. In order to match the DNA, all the Boyles decide to get their DNA tested so that Lindon does not feel singled out.

When the DNA results arrive, they discover that the hair found on the rat poison box was of a rodent, and they realize that it must have been a nutria’s hair.

However, that is not the most shocking revelation of the episode. Immediately after that, they find out that Charles is not a real Boyle. The DNA of all the Boyle cousins matches except Charles’.

When Jake asks Charles’ father about it, Charles’ father reveals that Charles’ mother had an affair with their rival florist. He also says that he had suspected that Charles might not be his son but did not care because he loves Charles so much.

While investigating further, Jake realizes that the nutria milk that Pappy used to drink had the poison because the nutria had eaten the poison, and it wasn’t any human’s fault.

Unfortunately, Charles finds out that he is not a Boyle and is devastated. Jake also reveals that Charles’ cousin, Sam Boyle, had hidden the will and planned everything to prove that Charles was not a Boyle. He did it because he was jealous of Charles for being chosen to give the eulogy.

At the end of the episode, with Jake’s encouragement, Charles proves that even though he is not a real Boyle, he is the one true Boyle by opening the lid of the jar of their grandmother’s sourdough.

Do Holt and Kevin Get Back Together in Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 Episode 7?

At the police precinct, Captain Holt tells Rosa and Amy that he has still not been able to sort things out with his husband, Kevin, even after trying couple’s therapy for quite some time.

She explains how it is more about not losing to Kevin than losing him. Hearing this, Rosa suggests that Captain Holt should start dating as it would be the only way to beat Kevin.

Rosa tells Amy that recommending Captain Holt to start dating was a great idea to get him back with Kevin as it would make him realize how perfect Kevin is for him.

So, Rosa and Amy help Holt with online dating. They even accompany him to his date, hoping for him to bail. However, they start panicking when they see Captain Holt having a good time with his date.

Recap Of Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 Episodes 5 and 6.

Holt finally reveals that he knew they were planning to manipulate him and had fooled them into believing that he was having a good time with his date.

Being a person who cares so much about winning, this victory against Amy and Rosa does not give me joy because he has nobody to share it with. Then, he finally realizes that Kevin is more important to him than winning.

When Amy and Rosa suggest that he should go and tell Kevin about how he feels with a romantic gesture, he shrugs it off by saying such romantic moments don’t happen in real life.

Fortunately, Holt is wrong about this and what follows is the most romantic scene of the entire series. Nobody had ever expected that the most romantic moment of the series would involve a couple that considers shaking hands as PDA. As Captain Holt was talking about how real life is not romantic, they hear Kevin’s voice.

They see Kevin running on the streets in the rain. Holt goes out, and Kevin tells Holt that he got scared when his friends saw Holt on a dating website. Holt finally speaks his heart and tells Kevin that he would do anything to keep Kevin in his life. Then, they kiss. It is the first time the viewers see them kissing.

During their vow renewal ceremony preparations, Captain Holt and Jake discover that the Patrolman’s Union had hacked into their system and changed their data, making their Police Reform proposal seem false.

He does not want Kevin to find out that he is working even during the ceremony, as his obsession with work was the reason why they had split up in the first place. So, the squad secretly creates a plan to solve the issue.

Jake and Holt go to O’Sullivan’s house to steal his laptop and prove that he had changed the numbers in Amy’s report to jeopardize it. Amy and Terry go to meet O’Sullivan to take his fingerprint and keep him out of his house. The rest of the squad stays at the venue to ensure that Kevin does not find out about any of this.

Everything was going well till Terry accidentally tells Amy about Holt’s plan of retiring. Even though Amy is not able to do anything properly after that, Terry manages to get the fingerprint.

At O’Sullivan’s house, Holt charms O’Sullivan’s mother, which makes it possible for Jake to steal the laptop. However, O’Sullivan’s mother catches them in the end and locks them in the basement.

Things begin to look worse when Kevin finds out about the plan. After some time, the NYPD comes to O’Sullivan’s house to arrest Jake and Holt. They see that Kevin and Rosa have come there, dressed as cops, to save them.

Captain Holt apologizes to Kevin for lying and tells him about his plan of retiring. However, Kevin says that he only wants Holt to be able to balance work and personal life and not give up his career altogether.

He adds that he understands how vital that reform is and supports him. They complete their vow renewal ceremony, and Holt heads straight to One Police Plaza.

The episode ends with great news for the squad. Captain Holt announces that the Commissioner has approved their Police Reform proposal and would be implementing it citywide.

To add to the joy, he also reveals that he would not be retiring and has been appointed as the Deputy Commissioner of Police Reform, with Amy being promoted to Chief.
