Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 Episode 5 Recap

Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 Episode 5 has been titled “PB & J.” It begins with Trudy Judy, the sister of Doug Judy (also known as the Pontiac Bandit), informing Jake and Amy that Doug Judy has been arrested.

Jake goes to meet Doug Judy and finds out that he has been arrested for a past crime outside New York. Jake feels sad for his friend and offers to drive him to prison.

Jake plans multiple surprises for his friend to make the journey memorable for him. He arranges a fancy car, matching clothes, rings, all of Doug Judy’s favorite food, and makes Rosa sing a song for him.

In the middle of their journey, Charles arrives on his family bus and asks Jake why he keeps trusting a criminal who has constantly tricked him and escaped in the past.

Charles asks them to continue the rest of the journey on his bus. To make matters even more complicated, the Pontiac Bandit reveals that he has planned to escape this time as well, which should not be very shocking to anyone.

On hearing Doug Judy’s plan, Jake gets upset, and they start fighting over who is a better friend among them. Jake decides to have a quiz competition to prove this, with Charles as the host. When Jake loses, he reveals that it was all a plan to stall him while waiting for Captain Holt to send backup.

However, the Pontiac Bandit outwits him once again. He reveals that he had exchanged the contacts of all his squad members with his sister’s phone number.

However, the Pontiac Bandit outwits him once again. He reveals that he had exchanged the contacts of all his squad members with his sister’s phone number.

So all the details that Jake had been sending Captain Holt were actually reaching Doug’s sister, Trudy Judy. When Jake finally calls Captain Holt using Charles’ phone, he warns that he would lose his job if Doug Judy escapes. Knowing that Doug Judy’s accomplices know the details of Charles’ bus, he decides to shift to another car, which is not in proper condition.

When Captain Holt’s backup arrives, Jake finds it very difficult to trust them as they can be Doug Judy’s accomplices as well. He has been fooled by Doug a lot of times, which makes him question everything.

When the police cars lead him in a direction different from what the GPS shows, he changes his path and follows the GPS. However, the GPS leads them to Trudy Judy and a bunch of goons, and Doug Judy reveals that he had also changed the GPS location on Jake’s phone.

Jake realizes that he has been fooled again while Doug and Trudy get ready to escape. The goons Trudy had brought tell Doug that they are going to kill Jake. Everyone knows that despite their cop-con rivalry, they consider each other to be very good friends.

So, naturally, Doug punches the person who was threatening to kill Jake, and all the criminals are handed over to the police, except Trudy Judy, who ran away before the cops arrived.

Meanwhile, Frank O’Sullivan, the leader of the Patrolman’s Union, comes to meet Amy, who had won funding for her pilot program that would reduce cases of police brutality. As the viewers already know how he supports cops who harass innocent people, he feels attacked and threatens Amy that she would regret it.

At night, Jake goes to the address where the bus with the bomb was kept in order to investigate. He finds a man who was snooping around and arrests him.

Jake later finds out that the man was innocent and was suing him and the department for wrongful arrest. When Captain Holt tells Jake that he has to be suspended, Frank O’Sullivan comes to his rescue and offers to save Jake from all of this mess.

Jake realizes that the wrongful arrest was probably a setup by O’Sullivan to get back at Amy. So, they decide to send Amy to negotiate with O’Sullivan.

Amy would get him drunk enough to reveal his notorious plan, while Rosa would secretly listen to their conversation. However, no matter how many drinks Amy and Rosa offer him, they can’t get him drunk, but the two of them get drunk instead.

O’Sullivan finally reveals that he was genuinely helping Jake because he genuinely believes in saving cops who get caught making mistakes. He confesses that he was only taking revenge on Amy by breaking their vending machine and stealing their food, which provoked Scully, Terry, and Charles.

While Jake continued investigating and following the person he had arrested, he finally realizes that he was wrong and had indeed arrested an innocent person.

After Captain Holt’s monologue about why cops should be held accountable for their mistakes, Jake learns a valuable lesson and owns up to his mistake. The episode ends with Captain Holt informing that Jake has been suspended from his duty for five months.
