Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba is one of the most loved anime series. The tragic story of Tanjiro Kamado and his little sister Nezuko is thrilling to watch. Tanjiro’s whole family was killed by the demon king Muzan Kibutsuji when he was out of the house to sell charcoal and earn a living for his family, but when he returned, he witnessed all of his siblings and his mother were killed by the demons, and the only one that survived the horrible incident was his sister Nezuko who might have accidentally consumed some of Demon King’s blood and has now turned into a Demon.
Tanjiro believes that his sister can be cured and protects her when Demon Slayer Hashira Giyu Tomioka finds them and tries to execute his demon sister. Tanjiro’s determination changes his mind, and he sends him to a Trainer who helps him become a Demon Slayer so that he can find a cure for his sister.
After becoming a member of Demon Slayer, he fights strong demons and takes their blood so that he can find a way to turn his sister back to humans. Also, the only person who can truly turn Nezuko into a human is Kibutsuji Muzan, and to do so, Tanjiro must defeat him once and for all.
Demon slayer has some of the strongest demons in anime. Though these demons seem scary enough, there are Muzan Kibutsuji’s special grade demons known as the Demon moons and are twelve in number. These are the strongest of all demons and are selected by Kibutsuji himself.
They are the upper six and the lower six and possess some of the strongest blood demon art. Let us introduce you to the Top 11 and the strongest Demons in the series from the strongest.
The Demon King Muzan Kibutsuji
Muzan Kibutsuji is the main antagonist in the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Series. He is known as the Demon King, the first of his kind.
Muzan was turned into a demon as he was trying to find a cure for his terminal illness. His ultimate goal is to live without any fear and gain immortality.
He has now been living for ages and can turn any human into a demon. If his blood comes in contact with any human and enters its body, they transform into demons.
That’s how demons grow in number, and he also controls them. They are not allowed to reveal anything about him, and if they even do just as much as reveal his name, their entire body then gets crushed brutally.
Also, all the upper and lower moon demons have their number written across their eyes. Though it might not appear to be true, Muzan is scared of his defeat.
He does not allow his demons to come together, and this is his basic rule so that they don’t plot against him.
He was the one who was responsible for slaughtering all of Tanjiro’s family.
Also, His true face is known only to demons, Tanjiro, and the master of all demon slayer corps as no Hashira has ever got an opportunity to fight him and survive.
Upper Moon One: Kokushibo
Kokushibo is a former Hashira of Demon Slayer corps, then known as Michikatsu Tsugikuni, and considered as one of the strongest swordsmen in Japan’s Sengoku era.
He transformed into a demon to lengthen his life as he had activated the Flame mark in the past, and as a result of it, his life was to end soon. He is very strong, and his breathing techniques, along with his blood demon art, make him the Upper Moon No.1. Also, he believes Muichiro to be his descendant.
Upper Moon Two: Doma
Doma is the most sadistic demon among Upper Moon Demons. He enjoyed being Demon and had survived many dangerous situations and fought many Hashira.
He is a very powerful demon and is responsible for the death of many members of the Demon Slayer Corps, including some of the strongest known Hashira, including Kanae Kocho, Shinobu’s sister and former Flower Pillar Hashira.
Doma has also killed Insouke’s mother and had even survived heavy wisteria poisoning. In his fight with the upper moon demon three Akaza, he even had his body destroyed, and his face blasted off by him but still enjoys the fight. He can be considered as one of the craziest Demons.
Upper Moon Three: Akaza
Akaza is an expert martial artist and also the one who defeated Kyojuro Rengoku, the Flame Pillar Hashira who was very strong, and another Hashira too in the past. He is a close-range fighter and has great superhuman strength and abilities. We can see him in action, where he defeated Rengoku in the movie Demon Slayer: Mugen Train.
This being said, Akaza is also the demon who has one of the most heart-wrenching backstories in the series. Hakuji, as he was called before transforming into a demon, was a criminal at a very young age and was orphaned at a young age too, when his father committed suicide.
He was adopted by Keizo, who later made him his student and taught him martial arts to give his life a new meaning, but this all was soon lost as he turned to be a criminal again. Later he met Muzn and transformed into a demon, and was soon among the Upper Moons.
Upper Moon Four: Nakime
Nakime can rearrange the space around her and the castle. She can easily transport herself or anyone else from one place to other, and this is one of the most difficult demons to locate and defeat.
In Demon Slayer Season 1, we get to see a glimpse of her power when she was present at the site when Muzan executed all the Lower Demon Moons. With the help of her Biwa, she can rearrange the Dimensional Infinity Fortress, where she resides and so cannot be located easily or caught.
Nakime’s blood demon art is not that dangerous but it is very painful to deal with. She can easily transport her opponents to dangerous situations, and they might get exhausted fighting demons even before the Demon Slayers could reach her.
Upper Moon Four: Hantengu
Hantengu, at first, does not appear to be fit to be an Upper Moon Demon as he is a coward and appears to be weak, but his strength lies within his weakness itself. DSKNY universe bends the realm of every Demon Boss Fight. This being said, Hantengu still faced hardships to fight Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji, Nezuko, Tanjiro, and gun-wielding Genya Shinazugawa.
His blood demon art allows him to divide himself into numerous divisions of his emotions. When the most vulnerable division, the fear, is attacked, his full power is revealed as his hatred, Zohakuten, is released, which absorbs all other divisions and destroys his opponents.
Upper Moon Five: Gyokko
Gyokko is another crazy-minded demon who has a freaking obsession with arts and crafts. He was defeated by 14-year-old Muichiro Tokito, Mist Hashira, who at the end activated the Flame Mark and recovered his memory, and defeated the demon.
Despite this fact, don’t get the wrong idea that Gyokko is weak as he was strong enough to let Muzan Kibutsuji include him as a member of Upper Moons.
Upper Moon Six: Gyutaro and Daki
Gyutaro and Daki, two sisters together as one, are titled Upper moon Six. They are together an excellent example of the power of Upper Blood Moon Demons. In their fight with the Demon Slayer Corps, it took many strong opponents, including Tanjiro, Nezuko, Inosuke, Zenitsu, along with Tengen Uzui, the Sound Hashira, and his wives, to defeat them.
Despite this, we can know more as Kibutsuji Muzan mentioned that using her poisonous blood demon art, Gyutaro could have easily defeated the Demon Slayers, but had to hold back because of Daki. She represented the human connection between the two, and to Muzan, this appeared as a weakness. The sisters were, in the end, defeated, but the fact that it took so many people to do so shines a light on the True Power of Upper Moons.
Upper Moon Six: Kaigaku
Kaigaku was a former classmate and friend of Zenitsu under the thunder breathing technique teacher Kawajima Jigoro. As not everyone has their best intentions in mind and not enough determination to do the right thing, Kaigaku decided to transform into a demon so that he could increase his power and make up for his weakness.
Kaigaku was a good student and could perform all of the Thunder Breathing Techniques except the First Form and was thus declined the position of a Hashira.
The Thunder master hoped that both Zenitsu and Kaigaku would eventually become great warriors and probably even Hashira, but this idea was not liked by Kaigaku.
Even after becoming an Upper Moon Demon, he thinks he is weaker than his previous Demons as he has not yet perfected his ‘blood demon art.’ So imagine if he manages to get his blood demon art perfect, he will rise way beyond the level of Upper Moon six, and his strength will challenge Hashira in their finest form.
Enmu can be considered as the strongest Lower Six Demon Moons owing to his Dream Manipulation Technique, using which he can take many lives at a time. His blood demon art allowed him to put people in their most awaited dreams, and then he destroyed the core of it, which destroyed his victim’s mind completely. His power has been revealed in the Demon Slayer movie The Mugen Train.
When Rui, the Lower Moon Demon five, was defeated by Demon Slayer Corps ad could not even put up a fight against Hashira, Muzan doubted the strength of his Lower six moon demons and executed them all.
Enmu owing to his cunningness and complete devotion to Muzan, was spared another opportunity and received more of Demon King’s Blood and attacked many innocent humans on a train to prove his loyalty to Muzan Kibutsuji.
Lower Moon Five: Rui
Rui was the first actual Lower Moon Demon to appear in the series. He had one of the tragic backstories and desperately wanted a family of his own. He created his own family on Mt.
Natagumo by capturing low-level demons and making them a part of his spider demon family. He made them act as his family and provided them specific roles to perform. He was most powerful among them and executed those who didn’t obey him and was thus feared.
Using his blood demon art Rui, he could manipulate strings or the spider webs and use them to cut anyone he decided. His fight with Tanjiro and Nezuko shook him as he witnessed the Relation of brother and sister that he craved.
Rui could have killed both Tanjiro and Nezuko if not for Giyu Tomioka, the water Hashira who defeated him in a flash. Ranking as Lower Moon Five, he has caused a lot of trouble, and along with lowly demons that he made as his family was responsible for the deaths of many of the members of the Demon Slayer Corps.
Former Lower Moon Six: Kyogai
Kyogai was known to hold the position of Lower Moon Six but was excommunicated. He had powers similar to Upper Moon Demon Four but on a much larger scale where he uses his blood demon art to mark a building as his own and to use the drums on his body could rotate the rooms in the place, providing him the ability to exhaust his opponents without them even touching him.
In the past he before he turned to a Demon, he was a writer and a musician who was not respected at all for his work. His harsh feelings and hatred transformed him into a Demon.
His ability gave him a home-field advantage as he was a tough opponent for Tanjiro in the Tsuzumi Mansion Arc. We were able to witness the strength of only Rui, Enmu, and Kyogai as other Lower Moon Demons were annihilated by Muzan in the blink of an eye.
Needless to say, Muzan Kibutsuji, the Demon King, is the strongest Demon, and a battle with him will be most exciting to watch. This is a must-watch anime. Do let us know what you want us to explore next in the comments below.
