Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans was released on July 20, 2021, on Netflix and is now available to viewers. Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans is a fantasy animated movie with a touch of humor as well.
Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans begins a year after Guillermo del Toro’s Tales of Arcadia takes place. In Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans, Jim Lake Jr., and his team embark upon a journey to save Arcadia. Arcadia is just another small ordinary town, but what makes it unique is that it lies at the center of the universe, making it the center for the battles between humans and otherworldly creatures.
The Arcade Order, which comprises ancient demigods, is plotting to destroy and then recreate the world. Jim has it upon himself to save the world and prove that he is the rightful owner of Merlin Ambrosius’ Amulet.
What happens in the Movie Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans?
The movie begins with the multi-eyed and friendly troll Blinky Galadrigal narrating the story so far in the prologue. He explains how in the Battle of Killhead, the good-hearted trolls supported the humans, while the evil-hearted ones wished to destroy them. The evil-hearted trolls were called Gumm-gumms.
Merlin, a powerful wizard, made the Trollhunter Amulet in order to defeat the Gumm-gumms and kept passing it on to the trolls who had settled in the underworld of Arcadia. Jim Lake Jr. was the first human owner of the amulet when, after the death of the trollhunter, Kanjigar the Courageous, the amulet chose him.
With the help of the amulet, Jim and his team had saved the world many times as the guardians of Arcadia. However, the amulet got destroyed by the Arcane Order. At the same time, a member of Arcane Order, Nari, defected to their side.
After the prologue in Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans, Nari is seen traveling on a metro train with Douxie when Arcane Order members, Skrael and Bellroc, come to take Nari away. Jim and his team arrive there. Jim tries to fight Bellroc while his team tries to stop the train that has gone out of control.
Douxie creates magical rail tracks to avert an accident. Arcane Order members manage to take Nari with them, but before that, Douxie and Nari alter their bodies, and the Arcade Order members actually take away Douxie in Nari’s body. Jim and his team, too, manage to escape.
Nari in Douxie’s body tells the guardians that a trollhunter can make the ninth configuration, while a Krohnisfere makes it suitable. With the amulet destroyed, Jim is not sure if he is a trollhunter anymore. A new amulet given by Aja is of no use, but Excalibur has a stone that could help them. Meanwhile, to obtain the Krohnisfere, Archie and his dragon father team up with Blinky and Claire.
The Arcane Order is trying to awaken the three titans to destroy and recreate the world. The three titans are controlled by Bellroc with the fire element, Skrael with air and ice element, and Nari having the power of vegetation in Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans.
The demigods need Nari to complete the magic. So, they take her away with them. Douxie tries to save Nari by switching bodies, but his magic starts fading, and Nari has to return to her own body and is taken captive by the demigods.

Now, as Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans proceeds, the Arcane Order summons the three titans who advance towards the Earth to do the needful. The ice titan appears in Greenland, Earth titan in Brazil, and fire titan in Hong Kong, and they proceed towards Arcadia to get the Heart Stone. The guardians of Arcadia try their best to stop them.
Strickler even tries suicide bombing to halt the ice titan and dies in the process while the ice titan comes out alive. Douxie is able to break Nari’s spell. Both Earth titan and ice titan are destroyed in the fight, along with their controllers, Nari and Skrael.
However, the Earth is still far from being saved as, according to Merlin the wizard, if only one titan lives, the Earth would be remade from the element of that titan. As the fire titan survives, the Earth would turn into a fireball if the fire titan is not controlled. The fire titan reaches the town of Arcadia, and the guardians, too, reach there.
A fierce battle starts between Bellroc and them. With the help of Stuart’s un-magic generator and with Toby’s help, Bellroc is finally defeated, and the world is saved in Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans.
Now, in Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans, Jim faces the challenge of detaching the Excalibur stuck in a rock. Jim decodes the words of Nari. He realizes that the ninth configuration is actually the nine heroes of his team. When they band together, Jim is able to extract the Excalibur and the amulet stone along with it. Stuart, the alien, fixes the amulet and gives it to Jim, which helps him win the battle against Bellroc.
After further decoding Nari’s words, Jim pokes the Krohnisfere with the Excalibur and gets the Time Stone. From Nari’s last words that time unfolds differently, Jim gathers that the Time Stone has the power to revert time. Nomura, Nari, and Strickler perished in the battle, and Toby, too, was hit.
Toby gets buried under the collapsing Heart Stone and dies. It comes as a massive shock to the viewers, as Toby is one of the most endearing characters with his comic timing and cute face. Without any superpower, he had managed to provide moral support to his team with his relentless optimism.
The Unexpected Ending of Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans
The viewers are in for a delightful surprise at the end of Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans. When Jim goes back in time, he finds Toby to be very much alive. In a sensational twist, Toby reaches the scene of Kanjigar’s death, while Jim is late to arrive there in this timeline. As a consequence, the amulet chooses Toby as its owner. If there is a sequel to Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans, the viewers might get to see Toby as a trollhunter.
