The show’s main cast includes- Ellen Barkin by Janine Cody, Smurf; Ben Robson by Craig Cody; Finn Cole by Joshua Cody; Shawn Hatosy as Andrew Cody, AKA Pope; and Jake Weary by Deran Cody.

The story of Animal Kingdom is about a 17-year-old boy named Joshua who is currently residing with his relative after his mother’s death and the estranged relatives, Cody’s- a criminal family clan headed by matriarch Smurf.

The family has something to do with Joshua’s mother’s death, and by the end of the fourth episode, we will see the most important aspect of the series is the killing and shooting of the smurfs.

Speaking about the dynamics of Animal kingdom Season 5, the showrunner Daniele Nathanson in an interview with TVLine, said about J and Uncle Pope’s alliance.

Daniele stated that the alliance doesn’t evolve as he had expected so far and remember there are two other guys in the family. As Smurf is now gone, it releases a lot more constraints on the old power dynamic.

The executive producer of the series has also stated that

“They are all alpha animals, and only Smurf’s was the one which was managed to keep everybody in line, and as He is gone now the whole dynamics changed giving an example of Lions and Cubs he also added if you take away the mother lioness, then the cubs will eventually start looking for one another as well correct? So that is what the situation is currently in the family, and there is no power structure without Smurf.”
