Sweet Tooth, the American fantasy drama by Jim Mickle, is based on a comic book adaptation of the same name; the first season just got concluded a few days back, and now the fans are wondering when Sweet Tooth Season 2 will arrive.
The show is based on a premise where for a global pandemic and rise of the H5G9 virus, many people lost their lives, leading to an emergence of a new species called Hybrid beings. Hybrids are a mixture of humans and animals nobody knew from where they have emerged. However, those who survived the first wave of the virus started blaming the Hybrids for the H5G9 virus spread. So there were two forces, one that wanted to kill the Hybrids, known as ‘The Last Men,’ and another group called ‘Animal Army’ they feel that the Hybrids didn’t cause the virus; they are here to save mother nature.
The Sweet Tooth is an unconventional mix of bleakness and humor; the show contains everything from savages to cute hybrid babies. And with the colorful shots and wistful narration of the story, it almost hits differently than all the other apocalypse dramas. And probably that is the reason why the show has been loved by all the people so far, and the response has been huge for the first season.

Sweet Tooth: What is It About?
The show is based on the premise that almost most people on earth lost their lives due to a global pandemic (rise of the H5G9 virus), leading to the emergence of Hybrids, a new species. Hybrids are a mixture of humans and animals nobody knew from where they have emerged. However, those who survived the first wave of the virus started blaming the Hybridas for the H5G9 virus spread. So there were two forces, one that wanted to kill the Hybrids, known as ‘The Last Men,’ and another group called ‘Animals” they feel that the Hybrids didn’t cause the virus; they are here to save mother nature.
So one of such Hybrid’s stories the show follows just before went into the wilderness with his father, and there he raised him. Unlike other Hybrids, Gus is a half deer-human hybrid who can speak like normal human beings. He calls his father, Pubba. Pubba is played by Will Forte who has mainly taken care of Gus and bought him up like his own son. Also, to make Gus feel safe, he made a fence surrounding their house in the wilderness and told Gus not to cross the fence because every human being wants to kill Hybrids like him.
Once Gus was nine years old, his father died, and after that, Gus discovers a box that was buried beneath a tree; the box contained a photo of a female, and Gus believes it is his mother. In the picture, “Colorado” was written and with a women’s picture.
After a year of his father’s death, Gus then decided to leave the wilderness searching for his mother. But as he then sets fire to his house, the nearby group of the ‘Last Men’ gets notified, and they then tried to murder Gus for sport. Then comes Tommy Jepperd, aka The Big Man, a lone traveler who saves Gus from the hands of those hunters, and even he got surprised when he heard Gus speaks like human beings. Both liked each other, but their date got spoiled soon as Birdie received a call from the lab that the army was already taking stuff from the lab. And Birdie knew that time of they anyhow got their hands on GUS; then it would be terrible for him.
It turns out that GUS was the first Hybrid that was born, and it was an accidental miracle by Birdie. She wanted to keep GUS at the lab to be taken care of, but by that time, the Government wanted to seize all properties, so she handed over GUS to Gus’s father Pubba and told him to keep GUS safe as he is an extraordinary Child.
At present, GUS, BIG Man, and Bear went back in the lab and founded some old documents which had some pictures of GUS (Genetic Unit Series 1) when he was born. GUS, after finding that he was a part of some experiments and he was just born at the lab and Birdie, and Pubba wasn’t his birth mother or father was devasted and ran back to find an abandoned plane and also uses its radio; thinking that he is speaking to the Preserve, but turns out he gave his location to The Last Men.

We will get more of our answers in Sweet Tooth Season 2, the fans with the cliffhanger ending of season 1 are really excited to know what will happen in season 2 of Sweet Tooth if it gets renewed by Netflix. In the below, we have also discussed what we can expect from Sweet Tooth Season 2 as well as what answers does Sweet Tooth Season 2 needs to give after the cliffhanger ending of season 1, Do give it a check as well.
What to Expect from Sweet Tooth Season 2?
As discussed above, the show is based on Jeff Lemire’s comic book of the same name. But most of you wouldn’t know that the original comic book Sweeth Tooth is much darker and violent than its TV adaptation. The TV adaptation was designed as a family-friendly series.
Producer Susan Downey (Robert Downey Jr.’s wife) also revealed that the original comic book stories are a bit different from the TV Series, and the characters also are changed as per the standards; like for example, in the comics, Jeff Lemire(Big Guy) is an ice hockey player, but in the series, he is football player like that also there are more such differences is there. Another good example of this the Animal group in the comics; an animal group is a group of adult savages. Still, they have been portrayed as teen fighters in the show, and characters like Bear and Aimee didn’t exist before.
Susan Downey said their ambition was to create a series for family audiences, and that is why probably the changes on the characters were made so that it would be presentable in a better way in a family-friendly manner.
With the ending of season 1 on a cliffhanger note, it is not clear what next awaits Gus and the other Hybrids in season 2. More to be revealed on how Sweeth Tooth and different hybrids were created and what caused the virus.
Co-Showrunner Beth Schwartz revealed that it would get picked up from where season 1 had left off as by the end of season 1; we saw it bought closer all the hybrid kids like Gus and also Tommy Jepperd being nursed by Aimee Eden; on the other hand, Dr. Aditya Singh is also being forced to work under general on the cure of the H5G9 virus. At the end of season 1, Bear also witnessed Birdie Gus’s mother in the Antarctic research station.
In a way, we can say that the COVID-19 pandemic has also helped the show makers as they didn’t have to explain to the audience what is this pandemic, virus, and other stuff. It somehow made things clear for the audiences to comprehend.
Some of the Unanswered Question from Sweet Tooth Season 2?
After the ending of Sweet Tooth Season 1, some unanswered questions remain, followed up in Sweet Tooth Season 2 if the show gets revived; one of such questions is ‘Birdie’s presence in Alaska’.
By the end of season 1, most of us who watched the series got to know that Birdie is the one who created Gus, a hybrid human/deer being (Genetic Unit Series 1). We need to understand why Birdie is in Alaska. Is she working on a cure as well? On why those hallucinogenic purple flowers appear whenever someone is sick or dead from the virus, will Bear/Rebecca be reunited with her Hybrid sister, Wendy?
It would be cruel if the show doesn’t get a second season as here we need answers on why his existence led to the birth of all the other hybrids; we also need to know if Gus’ birth is related to the spreading virus which had killed millions of people worldwide.
We think that in season two, we will also see Dr. Gladys Bell how close he got to find the cure and will also explore the story of Dr. Aditya Singh whether he is able to find a cure which will be able to save the life of his wife Rani and most importantly will be a breakthrough which will save the lives of all the sick people.
We also expected to see more of Will Forte and Gus’ early days as flashbacks as this will going to gives us some more understanding of the birth of Jepperd’s Hybrid and his first encounter with Gus and why he suddenly left The Last Man. Is there a reason related to his child? We will know it all in season 2 of Sweet Tooth; everyone is just hoping that the series will be back for a second season.
