Netflix has brought in a new feature of a shuffle button. This button has been termed as Play Something. It will go through your interests and shows that you watch and then suggest movies and TV series on your behalf. This new feature will start worldwide on Wednesday on the televisions. In a few days, it will come to Android devices as well.

We all have been staying at home for more than a year now. Even selecting what to watch can seem burdensome now. Thanks to the new feature from Netflix, we don’t have to give a lot of thought to it. This feature actually acts like a shuffle button. It will monitor the type of content you have been watching and suggest you a particular movie or series. It might happen; we do not like the suggestions that the feature provides us, so we can cancel it and watch something else. We can type in or search the content we want to watch and continue with that.

Netflix Play Something feature relieves you of the burden of choosing what to watch next.

Stop searching; let Netflix Play Something for you.

This feature will become visible many times in the application. It will appear underneath our profile name, on the application’s homepage, and the app’s navigation menu. The feature will be available on television from Wednesday. For the Android devices, it will take some time, but it will be there soon.

The application had started teasing about this feature from last year. Finally, it was announced in January that this feature would start getting into effect during the first half of 2021. The COO and Chief Product Officer, Greg Peters, mentioned that this feature would really be helpful for the users. Sometimes the users do not want to search for anything but want to be provided with something to watch and enjoy. This particular feature will just save them the extra burden of searching further.

Netflix Co-CEO Reed Hastings jokingly said whether the feature should be named “I’m Feeling Lucky.” This name was a reference to a feature from Google which would lead the user to the top search results of their query. The user will not have to browse through sites and pages to look for answers.

Netflix had earlier tested such similar features. There was an option on Android devices to start playing random episodes of TV shows like Arrested Development or The Office. Hulu also had used such similar features bak in 2019.
