Sony has come up with two new phones, Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III. These phones will be announced for launch today and will redefine the brand as a sibling to Sony’s Alpha digital cameras. The main focus on these particular phones is the camera setup. It is supposedly the world’s first smartphone to come equipped with a variable telephoto lens combined with a Dual PD sensor. Another impressive feature would be the autofocus system of the cameras, which is very fast and precise. The prices have still not been announced, but the phones will be available in summer in the States.
Both the phones come with top-of-the-line specifications, just like any other flagship phone in the market. There are three cameras at the back, the processor used in these phones is the latest and most powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC, and the phone comes with 5G support. People would like to note something about the 5G support; they would work on 5G in the States. They will be only working on the regular sub-6 networks on T-Mobile and Verizon. These phones will not have any support from AT&T’s 5G network.
Xperia 1 III and Xperia 5 III comes equipped with variable lenses for telephoto.
Sony is trying a lot to uplift their brand of smartphones, and hence they have put in a lot of good specifications. Xperia 1 III comes with a 4K OLED display that supports a 120 Hz fast refresh rate. The speakers that come with the phone are 40% louder than the normal speakers and have the 360 Reality Audio format by Sony. There is a special USB-C port that will allow the user to make use of a special cable to take in an HD resolution video from an SLR camera for monitoring purposes. This can also be an interesting option for live streaming.
The battery is 4,500 mAh in capacity. If you want to plug in your phone with the charger and enjoy gaming, you can do that. The phone will redirect the power, which will cause less heating produced by the battery. Both the phones will be coming on Android 11, but nothing has been mentioned about future software updates till now.
The other phone also has similar kinds of specifications with only a few changes. This phone has a smaller display size of 6.1 inches with an aspect ratio of 21:9 with support of 1080p resolution. But this phone has not deprived the variable periscopic type lens.
The main spotlight on these phones is their camera setup. The phones have three 12 MP cameras on the rear. Optical Image Stabilisation is present in both the primary and the telephoto lens. Sony claims that the lenses they have used in their cameras are equivalent to a 16mm with f/2.2 ultrawide lens, a 70mm with f/2.3 telephoto lens, and a 24mm with f/1.7mm wide-angle lens. The extra telescopic zoom comes through a folded design of the lens. The phone has the ability to move the elements in the lens to adjust to different kinds of focal lengths. The camera setup can give SLR-like pictures, which is really very impressive.
