The Way of the Househusband Season 2 or ‘Gokushufudou”, a Netflix ONA series inspired by a Japanese manga, whose writer and illustrator is Kousuke Oono. The anime was made by Collab with Netflix with the house of Studio JC staff. Chiaki Kon was the leader of the director’s team, while Susumu Yamakawa took care of the scriptwriting. The character of Tatsu got its voice from Kenjirou Tsuda in the promotional videos of the manga. He will be back in the role in the Netflix version too. Both English dubbed and subtitled versions are available on Netflix.
Tatsu is the show’s protagonist; he was an earlier ranker in the yakuza and was known as the Immortal Dragon by the moniker. But he decides to become a househusband for his careerist woman and abandon his criminal world. Some weird situations happen as his previous and current selves mix up and come out in some circumstances.
Its source of inspiration, the real manga, won many awards and gathered positive responses from the audience, except for the animation techniques, which were criticized.
The Way of the Househusband Season 2 Happening Anytime Soon?
The first season of The Way of the Househusband was premiered on 8th April 2021. The episode’s structure is unique: the entire season had 5 episodes, each of these again had smaller 6 episodes. These were inspired by the manga but without any order. There hasn’t arrived any official notification about the second season’s release from Netflix or the Studios. It’s important to mention not Netflix had been a regular investor in Japanese animation and supporter of animation shows like BoJack Horseman, F is for Family, and other shows.
Since The Way of the Househusband has been a famous show and had been impressive both in business and artistically. Hence, there’s a fair chance of it getting another season, probably sometime in 2023, if the notification arrives in 2021.
What to Expect from Season 2?
The structure is quite unpredictable; the adaptation has covered 30 chapters irrespective of volumes and leaves gaps of many chapters in between. There’s no fixed plot and just some comedy skits, where the narrated perspective is that of Tatsu’s cat Gin. The principal characters whose lives are shown are Tatsu’s wife Miku and his subordinate Masa.
It might be that those left-out chapters will be taken for adaptation in season 2. The protagonist Tatsu will still be in his role as Househusband, balancing his yakuza role for the times when he will be financially in need. Masa will be seen following his master while learning how to keep the house by cooking, cleaning, etc. Torii Hibari and Torijiru are some characters who might be featured in the second season and offer a different angle in the episodes.
