Mi Mix Fold Xiaomi’s First Foldable Smartphone Expected to Arrive Soon

Mi Mix Fold will first launch in China and go for sale from the 16th of April. The phone also has a special Ceramic Edition with 8.01 inches of OLED flexible display. This states that Xiaomi has some major plans and expectations with this phone. Xiaomi’s Surge C1 ISP will be there on the phone.

This will be the first foldable phone by Xiaomi and will get into the market alongside phones like Huawei Mate X2 and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2. The other phones in the series are Mi Mix Alpha and Mi MIX, which have been released in the past. These two phones showcased the company’s innovative efforts, but the new phone will totally be a commercial device. This phone will be the first from Xiaomi to showcase the Surge C1 image signal processor and the technology of Liquid Lens.

Specifications of Mi Mix Fold

Lin Bin, president of Xiaomi, had announced back in 2019 that the company has been working on double folding smartphones. After all the hard work and trials, Mi Mix Fold has finally been approved for launch. Xiaomi claims that the phone had gone through 200,000 bends while testing the reliability and has even gone up to a million bends when it was tested for extreme reliability.

The company has used a U-shaped hinge design on the phone that will allow inward folding. The screen is 8.01 inches in size and is a WQHD+ flexible display which is an OLED screen. There is a peak brightness of 900 nits and an aspect ratio of 4:3. The phone has a 6.5 inches OLED display on the side of the cover with a pixel count of 840 x 2,520, a peak brightness of 700 nits, and an aspect ratio of 27:9. The inner screen has a refresh rate of 60 Hz, and the outer screen has a faster refresh rate of 90 Hz.

The phone also supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+ standards. There is a color contrast ratio of 4,300,000:1 and a DCI-P3 color gamut. The capability of the screen to play videos is very good, and it can play them in 1440p.

The phone will be equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC and will have a maximum variant of 16 GB of RAM (LPDDR5) and 512 GB of internal storage (UFS 3.1). If we look at the cooling part, there is butter-fly VC liquid cooling, several layers of graphite sheets, and thermal gels. There are three cameras in the rear; the primary sensor is 108 MP from Samsung MH2, the next sensor is 8 MP which comes with Liquid Lens Technology, and the final sensor is an ultra-wide 13 MP f/2.4 lens. In the front, there is a 20 MP selfie camera.

The battery is a dual-celled, 5,020 mAh battery that can support 67 Watt of quick charging. This can get the phone fully charged in just 37 minutes. The phone will come on Android 10 with MIUI 12. There are each and every kind of sensor in the phone, and it will be supporting 5G.

Details on Price and Availability

The price for the phone has been set at CNY 9,999, which is around Rs. 1,12,100 in INR. The 12 GB RAM and 512 GB internal storage variant is priced at CNY 10,999, and the 16 GB RAM and 512 GB internal storage variant is priced at CNY 12,999. The phone will be available in China from the 16th of April through the official sales channel of Xiaomi.
