At the 2021 virtual event of Embedded World 2021 DIGITAL, the PC-making company Lenovo have brought in an upgraded edge IoT embedded mini PC in a few models like ThinkEdge SE30 and SE50. A few sources state that the upcoming models of the PCs are without fans, rugged, and small, but they will be powerful and strong to give enterprise-level security, processing of data, and scalability with the help of the addition of Intel Tiger Lake CPUs.

Lenovo has explained that the model ThinkEdge SE30 has been made for embedded work like ATMs for small retail and kiosks. They can all be used for medical device monitoring, manufacturing of automated production lines.

Core i3-1115GRE powers these PCs, and there are a few other models which have i5-1145GRE vPro processors. These processors come with DDR4 RAM of up to 16 GB of size, and for storage, they mostly use NVME SSD of 1 TB storage.

Lenovo has offered a lot of ports in these machines. Let us have a look at them

  • There are 2 COM connectors.
  • There are 3 USB-A 3.1 Gen2 ports.
  • There is 1 USB-A 3.1 port.
  • There is 1 USB-C 3.1 Gen2 port with a display.
  • There is 1 Thunderbolt 4 with display and power delivery.
  • There is 1 DP (i5 SKU)
  • There is 1 HDMI (i3 SKU)
  • There are 2 GbE jacks and 1 combo audio jack

The machine supports 4G in its inbuilt condition, and there will be an upgrade brought in Lenovo in the latter days, which will help the device support 5G as well. There are two M.2 2280 slots that can be used for upgrading the storage. For Wi-Fi / Bluetooth module, there is also an M.2 2230 slot.

If we look closely into the SE50 model, we notice that Lenovo has not brought out any major details or specifications about the machine. Lenovo assures that the device will have a Core i7 processor with a RAM size of up to 32 gigs, storage of 2 TB (a combination of SSD and HDD), and a more significant number of ports (at least four ports for GE jacks as mentioned).

This model can be used for multiple applications, as mentioned by Lenovo. The variety of applications ranging from higher analytics and data processing to analyzing the real-time data from the other IoT machines. We are not sure about the price yet as Lenovo has not mentioned anything. However, the shipping will start in the middle of 2021.
