Mindhunter Season 3 Renewal Status
Last year it was rather disheartening to the fans when news came up that actors had been getting released out of their contracts after Mindhunter Season 2, putting any next season on hold indefinitely. Instead, director David Fincher went for making another film Mank, coming up on Netflix.
According to Variety, during the promotion of Mank, he said that Season 2 has kind of tired up a bit, and moving ahead with Season 3 wasn’t much sense since it was expensive when compared to its viewership.
He was the showrunner of both the two seasons, though the creator of the show was Joe Penhall and the second season took a toll on him; he reportedly tossed eight scripts!
We get to know that not only three seasons, but a total of five are expected by Holt McCallany, who plays Special Agent Bill Tench, as he had previously told Pop Culture, due to the great response from viewers on the show. We know that canceling big famous shows isn’t uncommon for Netflix, like Santa Clarita Diet, Designated Survivor, and The OA. But doing the same for Mindhunter might prove to be a wrong decision
As we said above, there’s no confirmation of the take the place of the third season nor any date announced. So fans have to wait for an indefinite period for the thriller to come back. Apart from Mank, the director is attached to the project Love, Death and Robots, so apparently, there’s no strain in relations between him and Netflix. Anyway, Mindhunter 3 can be expected around 2023/2024.
The people we expect to see Ford (Groff) and Tench (Holt McCallany) back in their roles, alongside psychology professor / FBI consultant Wendy Carr (Anna Torv), Special Agent Gregg Smith (Joe Tuttle), Bill’s wife Nancy (Stacey Roca), FBI Chief Ted Gunn (Michael Cerveris), Bill and Nancy’s adopted son Brian (Zachary Scott Ross), and the ‘BTK killer Dennis Rader (Sonny Valicenti).
We can possibly see Ed Kemper (Cameron Britton) once again and other serial killers left to be interrogated by Holden and Bill.
Apart from the regular actors, others are Hannah Gross as Ford’s girlfriend Debbie Mitford, Cotter Smith as Robert Shepard. In Season 1, Cameron Britton acted as the serial killer Edmund Kemper in supporting roles.
In the next season, Christopher Livingstone, Oliver Cooper, and Damon Herriman act in the role of real-life serial killers Wayne Williams, David Berkowitz, and Charles Manson, respectively.
Mindhunter Season 3 Spoilers: What is expected from Season 3?
In earlier seasons, Ford and Tench were assisted by Edward Kemper, himself a serial killer, in their mission of interviewing and understanding the mindset of all serial killers, also solving few cases.
The expected third season might start from where Season 2 ended and begin from early, or middle of the 80s since the S2 had a setting of 80s/81s. It’s likely to show the travels of lead agents, Ford and Tench, making the police aware and enlightening them about FBI styles and hunting down criminals, or it might feature more serial killers.
The character of Dennis Radar or BTS killer who appeared irregularly in the earlier seasons might be featured properly on the third, making him a tough criminal for Ford and Tench.
