Airtel now comes with a piece of massive news after Jio. Airtel claims that it will be capable of making 5G work over the present spectrum, which is being used in all the mid bands and all the sub-bands in the GHz range.
In simple words, Airtel is allowing people to use both networks: 5G and 4G simultaneously using the common frequency spectrum.
Let us know a few key points about this.
Airtel has expressed the need for 5G in India and claims that it is ready with this network.
Airtel has tested the 5G network using the 1800 MHz frequency spectrum.
Airtel is now the sole competitor of Jio in India in the case of 5G. Jio was supposed to come out with the advanced network during the latter half of 2021.
Airtel has come up with a 5G demo in the city of Hyderabad in India.
On Thursday, Airtel announced to have successfully demonstrated the live 5G services over a business network in the city of Hyderabad, India. Being the sole competitor of Jio in the 5G market, Airtel states that the 5G services will be provided simultaneously with 4G using the 1,800 MHz frequency band. This band will be using the NSA (Non-Standalone) network tech. Airtel’s 5G is said to operate and provide 10x speed compared to that of the present networks on phones. Such high speeds will easily make downloading heavy files easier.
Ericsson, the equipment partner of Airtel, is going to make the experience even better for the users. Airtel has promised that the 5G network will work over the existing frequency bands for the mid-band range like 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, and 2300 MHz. The same will be the case for sub-GHz bands at 800 MHz and 900 MHz. Upgrading to the 5G network will happen via a few software upscales over the current network architecture.
The operator mentioned that if it obtains the DoT’s (Department of Telecom) required permission, then 5G and 4G can start working on the same spectrum. This will lead to the network launching in a few months from Airtel, although no particular dates have been mentioned yet.
Gopal Mittal, CEO of Bharti Airtel, said-
As soon as we have the required permission and sufficient spectrum bands, we will be bringing out 5G for the people in the market.
Jio, in December 2020, had mentioned bringing 5G in India during the latter half of 2021. Right now, Airtel has also entered, saying that they are nowhere behind if not one step ahead of Jio. People are still waiting for Jio to showcase their 5G network.
