Torchwood Return Teased by Doctor Who in New Year’s Special

The news of The Doctor Who Holiday Special having teased the return of Torchwood; that’s the return of John Barrowman to Doctor Who was welcomed happily by much earlier this year, along with his fan-favorite character Captain Jack Harkness also coming back for the 2021 New Year’s Day special Revolution of the Daleks.
Doctor Who is a British science-fiction television program which is produced by the BBC since 1963. The program depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called “the Doctor,” an extraterrestrial living being who appears to be human.
The Doctor travels the world aboard a time-traveling spaceship named the TARDIS. Torchwood was the first successful inspiration from Doctor Who, launched by Russell T. Davies in 2006. Actors John Barrowman played the role of Captain Jack Harkness and Eve Myles that of his colleague Gwen. They used to be the leaders of a secret organization whose function was to protect the Earth from alien attacks.
Many had thought that Jack’s homecoming was only a beginning, but the episode hinted strongly for revivals for Barrow man’s Doctor Who inspired Torchwood, which always had a strong fanbase and consisted of four series.
In the New Year’s special, after defeating the Daleks and saving Earth, Jack leaves the TARDIS behind and bid goodbye to the Doctor over the phone while reuniting with an old friend.
“Sorry, lost track of time!” Jack tells her. Gwen Cooper sends her love along the way – and tells she took the Dalek with both the moped and the boxing gloves of her son.
Quite obviously, this quick reference means a lot to fans of Torchwood. The only character to appear alongside Barrowman is that of Eve Myles’ Gwen Cooper.“Anyway, I’m gonna stick around on Earth and catch up with her,” Jack continues. “I’ll call you.”
“Send my love to Gwen!” replied the Doctor.
Maybe it was just a little reference for Torchwood fans for fun and approval to a series where Doctor Who showrunner Chris Chibnall had been creatively involved for a long time. (for a few years, Chibnall was the head writer for Torchwood). However, it’s possible that Jack being parked with his old colleague on Earth, is not accidental.
The Doctor Who 2019 New Year Special only showed how Earth is not defended well compared to what it used to be, along with a vital organization named UNIT being closed down. A Division is not present, and Earth will really need a resurrected Torchwood-and that would be nice to see Gwen Cooper, particularly as she is now the mother of a son.
Torchwood’s last season was aired in 2011 because the show suddenly ended as Davies – who shot season 4 in Los Angeles – made a return to the U.K. as his husband Andrew Smith was tragically diseased with brain cancer.
Barrowman also pointed out himself of some office politics in the BBC that came their way, as he said to the Radio Times that there are just some egos in the way that are just standing in the path. With Barrowman’s back in Doctor Who season twelve, this indicated the current showrunner Chris Chibnall could possibly resurrect Torchwood now.
Current Doctor Who stars Chris Chibnall was a part of Torchwood. He even functioned as the show’s head writer for some time. But to seek other opportunities and options, he abandoned Torchwood season 2. Keeping Chibnall’s love for Torchwood in mind, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Captain Jack’s return during his run, also being totally fitting for him to bring it back. Stay tuned for more updates!
