The Crown Season 5 Release Date had all the fans extremely excited about it. It has already been a month of the mega-success created by “The Crown- Season 4,” which had landed on Netflix. Emma Corrin as Princess Diana and Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher delivered amazing performances in the particular season, which has made fans crave more for the series.

Season 4 mostly focused on how Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s fairytale relationship ended in an extremely tragic way. It also showed the marriage of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson and the conclusion of Thatcher’s time in office.

Peter Morgan’s series is expected to cover a magnificent number of events prevalent in the 1990s. The Queen’s “annus horribilis,” the deaths of Princess Diana and Princess Margaret, and multiple royal divorces are supposed to be portrayed in ” Season 5″.

The Crown Season 5: Release Date

During Netflix’s TUDUM event, Netflix has announced that The Crown season 5 will be premiering its first episode on the streaming platform in November 2022.

Although no specific date has been given so far, the production for season 5 is already underway, and the production on season 6 is also expected to begin sometime in 2022.

Filming and Production

The Crown lead Imelda Staunton was interviewed by This Morning that The Crown season five would begin filming in July 2021, which was mentioned in October 2020.  

Staunton had also informed the Entertainment Weekly that her research for the role is in the process. Still, she anticipates filming on season five being delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, along with several television series and movies that are still at a halt.

“I think everything in the world Right now is going to get pushed on, isn’t it?” she said. “So who knows? I’ve been chipping away at it quietly.”

Deadline previously also reported that filming for season five would start in June 2021, and there will be a break between the seasons of five and six.

As per the new updates now the filming of season 5 is already underway and the season 6 filming is also expected to start from early 2022. 

The Crown Season 5 Cast Details: Whom Can We Expect?


The cast of the series is being changed for the third time, but it can be considered the final halt. It is supposed to have a group of prolific actors who would bring out the true essence of the royal family set in the 1990s.

While Peter Morgan has officially confirmed the casting for Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Margaret, Prince Philip, and Princess Diana, fans are extremely keen to find out the actors who would be fit for the roles of Camilla Parker Bowles and Princes Charles with Variety, recently reporting that Dominic West can also be chosen to play the heir to the throne.

There are several talks about the cast which are actually true, although there have been various rumors about the series.
Imelda Staunton, who is mostly known for the Harry Potter franchise and Flesh and Blood, will play the role of Queen Elizabeth II, being the successor of Olivia Coleman and Claire Foy.

Peter Morgan has reported to the deadline saying.

“Imelda is an astonishing talent and she will be a fantastic successor to Claire Foy and Olivia Colman.”

In an interview with This Morning in October 2020, Staunton had mentioned that she has already started preparing for the role since she is brushing up herself with the instances and events that the Queen has been a part of. Also, Imelda Stauton had mentioned how she is focusing on her acting skills to portray the Queen during a chat with Eamonn and Ruth Today.

The younger sister of the Queen, Princess Margaret, will be played by the renowned actress Lesley Manville. Leslie Manville, the Oscar-nominated star was the producers’ first choice for the role, and she will be taking up the roles of Helena Bonham Carter and Vanessa Kirby, who both played Princess Margaret in previous seasons said:

“I could not be more happier than playing Princess Margaret, the baton is being passed on from two formidable actresses and I really don’t want to let any side down,”

Furthermore, She added:

“to play siblings with my dear friend Imelda Staunton will be nothing short of a complete joy.”

The actress recently has opened up about the “pressure” of playing Princess Margaret in several interviews, revealing that she has been reading all the materials about the family and the events to fit that role properly.

Also confirmed for season five is the change of the actress for Princess Diana, which will be played by Elizabeth DeBincki in the sixth season of the series. The actress, popular for The Night Manager and Tenet, follows in the footsteps of Emma Corrin, who played a remarkable role of Princess Diana in the previous season. Debicki, in several interviews and chat shows, mentioned:

“Princess Diana’s spirit, her words, and her actions live in the hearts of so many People and It is my true privilege and honor to be joining this masterful series, which has had me hooked from Its episode one.”

In an interview with the Mirror,  the actress also quoted,

“ It’s a dream role for me. She is such a remarkable human being and she really does still lives in the hearts of many people. I’m really overwhelmed, I’m terrified and I’m excited. I can’t wait to start.”

The fans are also excited to see whether DeBincki will deliver a good performance for the remarkable character of Princess Diana.

Jonathan Pryce will replace Matt Smith and Tobias Menzies in the role of Prince Philip. He is an Oscar nominee and has also been a part of the popular series, Game of Thrones. “I am delighted to be working with Netflix again,” he said. The positive experience I had making The Two Popes has given me the confidence to tackle the daunting prospect of portraying Prince Philip. To be doing so with Peter Morgan and in the company of Imelda and Lesley will be a joy.” Prince Philip plays an important role in the British Royal family, so he plays an important role in the series.

The Crown Season 5 Storyline: What Can We Expect?

The Crown season four will be finished until the end of Margaret Thatcher’s time in Number 10 Downing Street in 1990. Season five will begin with a new decade and a new British Prime Minister, which is John Major.

John Major was the Prime Minister from 1990 till May 1997, which would prove a stopping point for season five if the show creator, Peter Morgan, now intends to cover Princess Diana’s tragic Paris car crash and death in season six, which actually took place in August 1997.

The early 1990s proved eventful for the British royal family where there are instances such as the divorce of Princess Anne, separation of Prince Andrew from Sarah “Fergie” Ferguson and lastly but the most popular separation between Princess Diana and Prince Charles, kicking off ‘The War of Wales’s’ and bringing about an end to the fairytale couple.
